I heard from a friend, who's cousin in Mexico is dating a girl who does overnight custodial work at the Hermasillo plant that she came across an employee memo in the trash that stated the hybrid maverick epa numbers were delayed because somebody spilled cafe con leche on the computer during testing and they had to bring in a new machine to retest again because nobody could believe the original results of 55/45/50, city highway combined.

Are they honestly just waiting for EPA testing or is there another issue? Have any of our friends in the Great White North seen any hybrids yet? I doubt Canada depends on the bureaucrats in the US EPA for its MPG/emissions standards.

I went to my Ford dealer (Jeff Smith) in Byron, Ga. to confirm my order. I was informed that the hybrid engined Maverick would take longer to produce. We switched the order to the 2.0 engine (Sept. 27) and got a production date of 11/8. Not changed yet.

I am the guy who the girl in Mexico is cheating on the friend's cousin with. I 100% vouch for this information.

I called my dealer this morning. There still has been no order number issued for my Hybrid order. I can’t change to EB because I need a Hybrid in order to flat tow my Maverick.

Patience, patience, patience!!!

My question is, which will never be answered, is when exactly did Ford submit a production hybrid to get said EPA rating done?? I'll bet the farm is wasn't uh on time.

Ford did always say a "Fall" release time frame. It's fall until December. Hang in there.

I believe Ford would submit a pre-production vehicle. From the looks of the application, they did that in June...

Technically if they never give out a hard date for when EPA estimates would be out, they're not "delayed" and that's all we'll get out of that. Internally they could have expected the EPA numbers released by the time the non-standard EB is delivered, but externally they could never reference that something got pushed back.

Honestly the PR speak is nauseating for what is functionally a delay of the "Standard" model. I'm still going to wait for the Hybrid but it is absolutely delayed by someone in the line.

With all due respect to Tim ...

... I'm not convinced EPA lab is to blame.

Why?

The EPA dyno lab has NEVER directly tested every new vehicle on the road.

This has been reported on multiple times from various sources before the Maverick was even an idea. If you want to hear it from the horse's mouth, look at the EPA"s Q&A doc, Question #9: EPA Q&A PDF. The manufacturer's themselves test most vehicles but must use the EPA's requirements. So Ford is at fault here.

It's safe to assume, IMO, that the EPA lab only grabs a few samples every year to make sure nobody is cheating their system.

So Ford cannot roll the Hybrid into a Ford dyno lab to do the test?! But were able to roll the EB a few weeks ago? Or the EPA's lab asked to sample the Hybrid and ... Ford has replied: "ummm, yea we're not ready for you to sample the Hybrid."

Eitherway, Ford is at fault and the EPA is a scapegoat.

EPA testing not Ford testing.

EPA is a government agency so who knows what their timeline is.
This is misinformation.

See my previous reply.

Two-thirds of the new vehicles the EPA does test are selected randomly

https://www.epa.gov/greenvehicles/testing-national-vehicle-and-fuel-emissions-laboratory

Certification Emission Testing

All new cars and trucks sold in the U.S. must be certified to meet federal emission standards, such as limits on the amount of smog-forming and greenhouse gas emissions that they can produce. Most testing is performed by auto manufacturers at their own facilities. EPA then audits the data and performs its own testing on some of the vehicles to confirm the manufacturers' results.

Fuel Economy Testing

EPA is also responsible for providing fuel economy data for the fuel economy label (or window sticker) that you see on all new cars and light trucks, and for the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) program.

As with emissions testing, data is derived from vehicle testing done at NVFEL and by vehicle manufacturers who submit their own test data to EPA for verification.

The Maverick being the first mass produced Hybrid Truck I can see that the EPA would do their own testing.
