It shouldn't matter who services it and most states have laws to protect the consumer so that any shop can do said repairs especially under warranty.
The Terms and Conditions of the OEM Warranty prevail.

"When you need warranty repairs, your selling dealer would like you to return to it for that service, but you may also take your vehicle to another Ford Motor Company dealership authorized for warranty repairs. Certain warranty repairs require special training though, so not all dealers are authorized to perform all warranty repairs. That means that, depending on the warranty repair needed, the vehicle may need to be taken to another dealer. If a particular dealership cannot assist you, then contact the Customer Relationship Center at 1-800-392-3673".

However, If in this special circumstance the OP is stationed at Eareckson Air Station in the Aleutians, etc. , he should contact Customer Relations at the number above for guidance..

Ford should pay the shipping or ship the part..no compromises…this “should be” covered in a lemon law…
Please have some idea of what a 'lemon law' is before suggesting it...

Man, all the hyperbole and clutching of pearls... This is an incredibly unique situation, and not the fault of Ford or it's dealers. I imagine there's a warranty/legal reason why the repair has to be done at a ford dealership. Then there's the fact that this guy is on some remote island isn't a normal situation. So the poor call center operator at Ford tells the Mav owner the warranty procedure. He/she's just following the protocol -- they don't have the authority to fly a part somewhere or OK a PO for a $2000 shipping event. And the Mav owner is upset.

The mav owner needs to call the GM of his selling dealer, or his base CO, or someone with the authority to recognize the situation and find a solution. It's that simple. Yes there are inconveniences, but again, this is a far from usual situation. The right people need to freaking just talk to each other and work out a fix.

It is not remotely the same thing, and you thinking so shows ignorance on the subject. Certified by who? Not Ford. Ford paying for the repair under a recall means FORD is liable. And they are not going to be anxious to hang that responsibility on Joes Garage and fishing tackle in West Jesus Alaska. And you are SURE Ford or other manufacturer warranty work can be performed at independent shops in Washington state?
You mean Ford won't ship their replacement warranty parts to some guy named Ernie operating out of a cardboard box for installation and certification? Damn Ford..... 😅

I believe there is a Ford rep that belongs to this forum. Don't remember the name though, but you would hope he could respond to this thread to help work something out.

Never said a janky shop.

Maybe I should have clarified that it needs to be AUTHORIZED by FORD. I'm sure the chances of them doing it outside of their own dealership network are slim to none, but the warranty is with the manufacturer, not the dealer. Any authorized shop should be able to do the repairs. Sorry for the confusion of my use on the word "certified"... but I'm not referring to anyone that can print out a piece of paper with the word on it and a fake stamp, I'm referring to certified FORD technicians. They do exist outside of the dealership network. Fordtechmakuloco and his BSG Automotive shop is one for example. He's mentioned performing warranty work numerous times on his videos after dealerships have failed to address the issues.

I agree about the location issues which is why I asked for clarification on the location to find the closest location because it's obviously not the one on the island OP is on.

It shouldn't matter who services it and most states have laws to protect the consumer so that any shop can do said repairs especially under warranty.

We are not talking about a minor issue like an air bag recall that does not necessarily have to be done... the vehicle is "no start" and it's a 100% FORD related issue. At that point, for such a huge company, it shouldn't matter where the person is. Any certified shop should be able to do the repairs.

Sorry, but I chose the side of the consumer. Especially one that is serving their country and has no real choice on their location.
The OP stated it's a recall that needs to be done.

Can an independent repair shop complete manufacturer recall repairs?

Ford should be able to give the ok on this considering the situation. Stay tuned..

And if the repairs do not solve the problem or an issue presents itself due to the repairs, they simply don't honor any more warranty work.

I'd really just like to know the location to clarify what OP means by FORD mechanic. I wouldn't expect the local hole in the wall shop near me to be able to honor warranty recall work, but I would expect FORD to have a better solution than just "dealerships" to service vehicles needing warranty repairs, especially with the amount of recalls they had in since 2021.

Maybe, if anything, it's time for a change to protect consumers on a broader scale. I do however agree that it will likely have to be shipped off island to where ever is closest. This is why when I served in Germany I didn't get an American vehicle, I got a German vehicle. Lots of vehicles that soldiers get shipped end up staying in the country they ship them to. But as it stands... Alaska is the US and hopefully someone can get the ball rolling on a public level to get OP some help. I'd be willing to donate to help and I'm sure others would to (with more proof and clarification of course).

Uhmmm, it’s REMOTE Alaska.
If the OP expects lower 48 services somewhere remote like the Aleutians, they are completely out of touch with reality.

Even Kodiak is like living in a foreign country when it comes to availability of goods and services.

I absolutely love my Ford Maverick hybrid. However, I am in the military and was required to move from California to a tiny island in Alaska. The truck handled Alaska like a champ.

Then we were issued a no start recall. No problem! There’s a ford mechanic on the island. However, 8 months later still no part for the recall. One day our truck doesn't start.

Now ford customer service says that we MUST take it to a dealership to receive the part which you only get when your car doesn't start. It’s $2,000 to ship a car off the island one way. 20 days later no help from ford customer service, just two closed cases files because our issue was “resolved”. Also, no alternate means of transportation. I was forced by necessity to buy a beater. Great truck, bad company. It’s a real shame because my grandpa taught me to always go Ford. But never again.
Ford SUX!!!!!!! I got screwed over on a veteran's benefit due to nebulous wording in their offer. BYW, thanx for your service! I was REMF In Viet Nam.
