I absolutely love my Ford Maverick hybrid. However, I am in the military and was required to move from California to a tiny island in Alaska. The truck handled Alaska like a champ.

Then we were issued a no start recall. No problem! There’s a ford mechanic on the island. However, 8 months later still no part for the recall. One day our truck doesn't start.

Now ford customer service says that we MUST take it to a dealership to receive the part which you only get when your car doesn't start. It’s $2,000 to ship a car off the island one way. 20 days later no help from ford customer service, just two closed cases files because our issue was “resolved”. Also, no alternate means of transportation. I was forced by necessity to buy a beater. Great truck, bad company. It’s a real shame because my grandpa taught me to always go Ford. But never again.

To add for anyone else who has received the CSP notice for the battery harness issue…please, even if your truck hasn’t had the issue yet, take the time to check that your truck has a manual parking break release. If you have the hybrid and your battery is SOL and you don’t have it there is no way to switch your truck from park to neutral which makes getting a tow an extreme pain. My truck and several others on this forum just have a big hole where it’s supposed to be, and no one can agree if it’s meant to be a part of the build or not.

I can sympathize with the issue, I couldn't get mine fixed in a town full of Ford dealerships.

Best wishes for some resolution and thank you for your service!

If they can send USO shows to remote areas for our deployed service members, why not a few mechanics laden with tools and parts?

Dude, raise this up the Ford flagpole. Also call the dealer where you bought it and see if they'll help you in some way. There is no way that the answer should be to ship it 2k each way for someone in the military. Hit them up on their public channels in Insta, FB, Twitter, and whatever else you have available.

I have a hard time believing that Ford doesn't want to take care of you. They're just hampered by the same policies and bureaucracy that all governments and big companies end up having.

Sounds like Amazon customer service...

Unfortunately, you are probably going to have to jump through hoops to get them to pull their heads out of their asses.

What post are you at and what is the servicing shop you would take it to? Don't worry... I was not an officer so I know how to read a map ;)

Posts like this are always comical to me. I do hope the OP can get Ford to make an exception. But for any other issues that come up, what then? Ford built a product and they have a vast dealer network. It is not today, and never will be Ford's problem that the OP is an a shit to access geographic location.

I have to wonder though. What company would have covered shipping your truck off island for recall service or would have sent a Ford teck to your island to remotely service it? Granted they could have just sent you the part. I also wonder if calling around to different service centers around the country if they couldnt send you the part without going through Fords recall and then have your guy install it and once you leave the island if you ever do have a check on the recall performed at a official service center? This is coming from a guy on a island. A bigger island, but still stuck with island issues.

@Ford Motor Company needs to do something for our servicemen and women! This is terrible! I am so sorry you are being treated like this!

I'm wondering how much the failed part costs vs round trip shipping cost

I would suggest reaching out to your congressperson. They will probably be in a position to publicly shame Ford for not being accommodating. Ford always pushes their proud to serve stuff. If Ford gets the wrong publicity especially concerning on our service members, they should backtrack pretty quickly.

It shouldn't matter who services it and most states have laws to protect the consumer so that any shop can do said repairs especially under warranty.

We are not talking about a minor issue like an air bag recall that does not necessarily have to be done... the vehicle is "no start" and it's a 100% FORD related issue. At that point, for such a huge company, it shouldn't matter where the person is. Any certified shop should be able to do the repairs.

Sorry, but I chose the side of the consumer. Especially one that is serving their country and has no real choice on their location.

First, you are 100% wrong about the laws. I could be wrong, but to my knowledge ZERO states have laws that allow warranty work to be done outside of the dealer network. I understand how you feel, and as noted I hope Ford can make an exception. But this is more complicated than you are making it out to be. If that shop fucks up the install, then who is responsible? In the dealer network there is no question that there will be resolution and there are legal protections if it goes wrong.

I'm 100% wrong but you "could be wrong"? I suggest you do some research. It's not complicated at all. Need an example? Washington is one.

There are more shops out there than just dealers. Again, if they are certified, it's the same thing.

It is not remotely the same thing, and you thinking so shows ignorance on the subject. Certified by who? Not Ford. Ford paying for the repair under a recall means FORD is liable. And they are not going to be anxious to hang that responsibility on Joes Garage and fishing tackle in West Jesus Alaska. And you are SURE Ford or other manufacturer warranty work can be performed at independent shops in Washington state?

Couple of takeaways/lessons.
1) Don't take unproven vehicles to remote locations
2) If you do take a warrantied vehicle to a remote location where a dealer is unavailable, be prepared to pay for your own parts and labor or bring a lot of zip ties, duct tape, and bubblegum to McGyver your way out of a jam.

I ain't saying it's right, but it is reality.

Ford should pay the shipping or ship the part..no compromises…this “should be” covered in a lemon law…
