I guess you missed the smiley face. That guess is just as accurate as assuming that just because lack of DRLs has never (in your experience) been cited as the cause of a crash means that having DRLs does no good.
Personal experience over my 20+ year career of averaging taking 15 fatalitiy crashes, 50 serious bodily injury crashes, and to many to count personal injury and property damage crashes a year over that 20+ years.

The main cause of crashes are humans. Medical emergencies make up a small portion, meaning driver of vehicle suffered a medical condition aka letting Sir Isaac Newton drive the vehicle at after the medical emergency. Mechanical failure makes up a very small total of crashes, and they call all traced back to humans.

DRL might reduce crashes, but there is no way to know because there is no way to record an event that never occurred.

I cannot control what other drivers do. I can only take as many precautions as I can.

Your last sentence here implies that you agree that reducing injuries reduces fatalities.
Takes an injury, unless medical event, to cause a fatality. One does not die in a crash without receiving a traumatic injury. Reducing injuries is all a seatbelt, airbag can do they can not save a life if they could save a lives there would be no injury crashes.

As a motorcyclist, DRLs help me see when an opposing direction freedum driver is turning left in front of me.

They also find other things effective, like having police departments fill out reports they should be doing, because 99% of crashes are civil issues. Yet, insurance companies use tax dollars to do their work.
How does that apply to DRL’s?

Applies to big government and big corporations using their will to force others to do things they want.

A good driver, does not need drl in my opinion. In my opinion seat belts should not be a law. Should be the choice of occupants, unless under 18.

Insurance companies use the threat of force of government to get what they wish on individuals which is not freedom.

I completely disagree with all of that.

I completely disagree with all of that.
So you feel it is ok for companies to use the force of government to impose their will.

Guess you also disagree with freedom and individual responsibility?

I have an XLT. In Argentina, the DRL (Daytime Running Lights) option in the menu is not displayed, so you COULD NOT turn off the lights.

I used FORScan and enabled the option in the cluster. Now I can turn them off. If you're wondering why, it's because Argentina is not very safe. So, I'd rather approach my home in complete darkness. I don't want to attract attention in the darkness. Is this a good idea? Of course not, but it's better than having a gun pointed at my head.

So, if you dont have the option... you can enable it

Go to IPC module
Change Daytime Running Lamps Menu (Additional changes requiered in BCM) from Disabled to ENABLED

then you go to BdyCM Module Configuration:
Change DRL include park lamps From Disabled to Enabled

So, you will protec your headlamps.
You will have plenty control of your lights,
Auto function will work perfect, (when dark the will turn on).
if you are living in the middle of nowhere, no point to have lights on during day.

I'm guessing the OP wants DRLs off so they can sneak back home after a late night of carousing or staying out all night with the mistress. Now that is a legitimate reason.

Nope. Auto turns headlights on when light conditions are low. The xlt and xl do not have DTRL, to my knowledge, and I am happy for it. My 22 stays on auto unless it is raining.
WRONG.

I haven't read through all the posts in this thread, but I can say that outside of the predictable reasons for not wanting DLRS on ("I don't want them when I'm the getaway car for the bank heist or if I'm sneaking up to my neighbor's house because his wife and I are carrying on"), I for the life of me can't imagine why anyone would want to make their car less visible in traffic. The sad thing is that sometimes you have to bring people kicking and screaming just to do the right thing for the greater good.
