Purpose of Auto headlights on XL/XLT

Nope. Auto turns headlights on when light conditions are low. The xlt and xl do not have DTRL, to my knowledge, and I am happy for it. My 22 stays on auto unless it is raining.

You are wrong. The XL and XLT have Daytime Running Lamps and they are always on.

Daytime running lamps are always on unless you switch on the headlamps or your vehicle is in park (P).

Wish DRL was lower brightness or only illuminated 1/3 banks. Headlights on 2/3 and with high beams all 3.

XLT auto headlights are auto tail lights.

I rarely use my wipers. Windshield is ceramic coated. Works better than rainx.

How????? I hate that my headlights come on as part of my DRL, I would LOVE to just have the two orange blinkers as DRLs. If you know how to do this, please fill me in!

So far its all or nothing. Some people have used forscan to get just the turn signal as drls but it seems to reset the next day.

I would prefer not using forscan from the things I’ve heard about the DRL settings. How can I go with just nothing vs the headlights on?

Ford has set up their vehicle to default to DRLs running with every engine cycle. This is because DLRs are required in Canada and some states. Ford isn't going to bother with separate code based on where the vehicle ends up. It is easier to just turn them on for everyone.

I personally don't understand the resistance to them. As my headlights are completely automated, I couldn't care less what state they are in during the day. Especially on the Lariat where they are all LED.

On my 22 XL, I have DTRL. I can turn them of if I want to. See the owners manual. When I turn on my wipers, the headlights and taillights come on.
