One thing I don't have yet but will not use....lane assist. That scares me thinking about not being in control. This auto park is way safer😁 You can literally just stop and open your door and watch it go into park.
I'm right there with you. I have both lane keeping and lane following assist on my current car (not quite sure what the difference is, other than one of them has a physical button, while I had to find the other one in the settings on the digital display). If it's on, I have to fight the car for control of the steering wheel. Yeah, no. Turned that crap off as soon as I figured it out.

I hit a few of my jobsites today and some I have to jump out unlock gate and drive through then stop again going through. Well I like the fact that I can just stop open door and hop out. Automatically goes into park. That is super handy as sometimes I have to jump in and out multiple times really quick. Now no reason to worry about putting in park(flat ground). Just open door and bail. Hop back in and roulette spin to right and go. Pretty cool. That's all in case someone else didn't know.
yes, that feature is described in the manual. very nice and convenient feature.

This is the biggest misconception with lane assist and why it gets a bad wrap. The driver must maintain control and regular interaction with the steering wheel or the system shuts off. It is not autopilot and the vehicle is not in control. It's a driver assistance system - hence the name.

As far as the auto-park system, I'll add to the chorus of people that say good on you for finding a safety feature, but I also wouldn't use that as a shortcut or part of regular operation. Not my truck though 🤷‍♂️
Can't say that my car works like that. I was constantly fighting the car over where in the lane I wanted to be, while the car wanted to take every single exit, because that's where the white line went. I'm doing much better with it turned off.

Do you at least come to a full stop and allow the vehicle to go into park with your foot still on the brake? I don't see how the motion with your right hand is so time consuming. But hey, it's your transmission and possible insurance claim if it doesn't work out, not mine!

I knew a guy that was killed in his driveway when he stepped out of his chevy dually, didn't get it in park, rolled back, knocked him down and the truck ran over him.
This feature will prob save some lives, but I sure as shit wouldn't rely on it purposely
the guy that played Chekov in the last few 'Star Trek" movies lost his life when he got out of his vehicle (i forget which make and model)to get his mail and it rolled into him if i'm not mistaken.

property damage, bodily harm and fatalities would be dramatically reduced if all passenger vehicles had this feature if you ask me.

I can't imagine it causes any more stress on the transmission. After all the truck does the same thing if you stop in your driveway and turn off the ignition -- goes into park automatically. It's just an electronic switch whether it's activated by the door opening, the ignition being turned off or the shifter dial being spun.

I don't think making comparisons to doing reckless things as a kid or "having fun" in other dangerous methods so to speak are helping the argument here, and neither is the "safe space" references. Assumptions like those only make people making them look idiotic and it's pretty common on this forum. The ad-hominem attacks are ridiculously unwarranted here - over, and over, and over again from thread to thread by some users.

There is a big difference between understanding they are neat features and solely relying on them. They are secondary safety features and the effort to remove a vehicle from park, or place a vehicle in park is not difficult and likely less taxing on the components that utilize it. For example, to remove the parking brake while in drive, you have to give it gas. It's noticeably clunkier and not smooth. That means that small parking pawl will eventually wear on the gears it grabs. It's nothing new and it's not rocket science. Why? The gear is being force into motion before the pawl is completely removed and clear of it. Small rubbing, but eventually can lead to more damage. It's the same as rolling in neutral and going into drive or reverse. Small gears that will grind until they eventually grab will absolutely wear on parts faster than normal use.

The feature of the vehicle going into park when opening the door is nice, I think many agree. In fact, I have not seen anyone disagree. It's the fact that people will now rely on it and essentially "abuse it" that causes accidents and complacency. It's no different than the blind spot monitoring or a backup camera and you've taken the shortcut method relying on those sensors instead. They are VERY helpful but they don't provide the safest methods the driver should always practice. All people are saying is to be safer and it may cause less wear and tear and possible negative outcomes.

Don't make it personal.

I completely agree.

But that's not why I'm replying here. It's that word right there. Never heard it before so i had to look it up.

WORD OF THE DAY.

This reminds me of the thread here in which complaints were made about creep mode not being strong enough🤗.

I need to get a job like yours. That way I'd have NO complaints about the Maverick. Wait, I'm retired. On second thought I'll live with my one complaint and remain retired. I do not like the dial selector but am getting used to it.

Yes I love that on my Maverick I also love I do not have to take off the E Brake just put it in drive and go it comes off automatically but I do not like the little jerk it does . Wish I would of had both of these on my interceptor . Sometime you forget to do some things when you get in a really big hurry and a half of a second to a second means so very much sometimes. 🚔☠🤔⚰
perhaps that little jerk u feel is a result of the engine stop/start feature? this is a 'default' on system that i believe can be disabled thru the steering wheel menu buttons.
good luck to you & stay safe out there!
