In my previous F150 with full size bed, I just used to sling the MTB bikes into the bed with no issues. After getting the Maverick, I looked at most of the solutions for the bikes, even tried the tailgate pad but didn't like it. For the last 2 - 3 month, I have the Kuat Serpa 2.0, hitch mounted bike rack and love it...

I will be the first to say that this isn’t for everyone. There are a lot of ways to carry a bike in a truck that are more convenient and easier.

Is your hard cover folded all the way up? I'm looking to get one that I will still be able to haul my motorcycle in the bed but every hard cover I see seems to take a lot of room out of the bed even when folded all the way up.

That is folded all the way up. With it like that I lose 8” of bed space.

That is a factory hard tri fold. It can be taken off in about a minute. There is a Star knob on the front corners that hold it on.

I hope to get a new bike in the next year or two, and I'd like to splurge on electronic shifting. I've heard only a very few who said it wasn't worth the money.
It is a total luxury but I think it is worth it. The shifting is smooth and quick and I’ve never had it miss a shift or skip.

I bought the bike in 2019 and upgraded it over the years. This year was di2. Competitive Cyclist had a good sale earlier this year and I decided to treat myself. When I finally start building a gravel bike I’ll end up putting di2 on it.

I'm using this. $54 from Amazon with the clipped coupon.

That’s a good price

Himal Outdoors Tailgate Pad for Mountain Bike, Tailgate Protection Pad with Tool Pockets https://a.co/d/jcl7qkz

Have you noticed if dirt between it and the tailgate scratches the paint at all.

My only concern with using one.

Nice setup.

What’s the cost and where did you purchase?

No. If you tighten the straps down there's no rubbing and I keep my tailgate fairly clean.

If I didn’t have a tonneau cover I would’ve gone with a tailgate pad. I didn’t want to have to put it on and take it off every time I ride.
No problem using my tonneau cover with the bike pad as it's a soft roll up.

The 1Up van trays are $82 each, 1Up van tray. I probably used $75 worth of 10 series extrusion and hardware. I buy extrusion from Tnutz
I was going to ask if that was black anodized 80/20 extrusion. I work for a hydraulic/pneumatic distributor and 80/20 is one of our vendors.

That's that 80/20 stuff. I get mine from McMaster-Carr in Illinois. They just call it strut. They have all kinds of hardware to go along with it.

I find these extrusions to be the best and cleanest way to create custom mounts for these trucks. I did a similar thing using 1Up van mounts and extrusions but wanted to keep a low profile so used axle mounts. I now have 4 bike carrying capability while keeping my bed for luggage, protected from the rain with the tonneau. I saw your post in the past and seriously thought about doing something similar. I really wanted to be able to drive in/out of my garage with the bike on the truck so that is why I opted for my design.

Yeah, no setup is perfect in every situation. it's easy to forget about the bikes and wreck them against the garage door opening! I don't own a garage so it's not an issue for me. With two kids, I really need that cargo space.
Your setup definately keeps the bike cleaner and offer lower drag on the highway. I would have hoped for better protection from the cab but the Maverick cab is not that tall next to the bed rails. My setup offer ''some'' protection to the drivetrain when the bikes are mounted on my custom mounts but otherwise, no matter where the bikes are mounted, the handlebars and controls do get blasted with bugs or salt when it's winter.
