Anybody remember the days when you got a new car, joined a forum, and talked about which vendor was best for modified parts like tail light upgrades and stuff we can’t even get because nobody is making anything?

The idea of discussing when, and if, you could get the car itself wasn’t even on the radar.

It was good while it lasted.
Lol, last time I did that was 20 years ago. I'm still driving that car today. I'm sure in due time it will go back to normal. It will be a few more years to come out of the pandemic haze, but I'm sure it will go back to normal and aftermarket parts will catch up.

🤞To logging 20 years on my Mav when it comes. Though, I think in the next 5-10 years the efficiency curve is gonna make me upgrade.

I know most are going to say this is totally unpredictable and a crap shoot. But for those who have had experience keeping tabs on the production of these vehicles for years now weigh in with outcomes to similar orders? Any idea on a rough timeframe for me to expect an update from ford. Eg. A production date that they've even queued my order.

I put an order in for a 24' XL ecoboost with one option, standard hitch (not 4k). The order was confirmed from Ford's side on morning of 7/18/23.

Can any of you who put in and early and simple XL order for previous years speak to your timeframe?

Again, I know I can view swaths of data on this from previous threads but I'm looking for confirmed experiences for simple XL orders put in to order banks early on. Would help weed out the many other complex constraints to guestimate.

Thanks!
Find out from your dealer what their expected allocations per month are. Find out how many '23 to '24 rollovers they have. Assume tha thte rollovers will come before new orders. Find out how many XL orders they have that were placed ahead of yours without constrained items. Assume that only 20% of their allocations each month will be XLs. Take 2d6 and roll for the month that you can expect to hear that you are scheduled.

Its to easy to say stuff like that. Like all the people who thought we'd never return to gyms or outdoors and that home gym equipment would stay more valuable than gold. I just picked up a ton of stuff cheaper than I ever could pre-pandemic.

For sure things won't return to what they were. But at some point there will be a cycle where it becomes a buyers market again. It may take 3 years to truly swing back or it may be a whole different ball game where everyone is riding electric bikes. But for sure the buyers / sellers market cycles will continue. Just have to learn how to ride the wave.

I placed my order on 7/17 and the dealer told me they would guess I might see it in December when we were finishing up. I'll ask for an update and inquire to see how well they were factoring in the above.

What's 2d6?

Forget that you have one on order and then you will be blessed with a production email....that's what I'm doing  I guess since I have one to drive, it makes it easier. :)

The things that I listed are all relevant to a particular order getting scheduled, but in the end it's just a roll of they dice. 2 6-sided dice would give you a number between 2 and 12, so Feb to Dec. But I should probably have said 2d5, since the model year will only be built until Oct.

I'm not normally a person who plays into the scarcity or cares to track this type of thing. In fact that would normally drive me away from buying such items.

Just so happens my current car is really on it's last legs. With the market the way it is, the Maverick is a great Value for my uses. So I'm pretty sucked into the BS largely because I'd rather not be pressed into buying other Vans or Trucks available right now.

Maybe I'll get lucky and pass my Oct inspection without issues. Then I can breath easy and just wait. But I've got a frame issue they might flag. I know it's not going to be critical in the next year, but from an inspection stand point it's a red flag.

I think the 2023 demand is the main issue as @ilikebike stated; there are thousands of orders before us.

Since you're looking for an Ecoboost and options are not critical for you, you should reach out to dealers to see if you can reserve an abandoned order. I was able to find and reserve an in-demand vehicle (non-Maverick) while in transit.

My Maverick needs very specific options and I do not want the vehicle until Spring 2024.

Hopfully Ford does the right thing and builds the MY23 role-overs first. But I guess I can hope in one hand and $#!!# in the other as Ford has shown; there is no rhyme or reason to scheduling .
