21.613 months actually. Or 1.8 years. Or 93.857 weeks. Or 657 days. 15,768 hours. Or 946,080 minutes. Or 56,764,800 seconds....

1 year, 9 months, and 18 days after I first placed a Maverick order it took a little less than a 3 mile test drive to my house, and my wife driving it around the block once to determine we loved it and we wanted it - but would it make sense financially?

TL;DR - 21.5 months. Fell back in love with the Maverick after a 4 mile test drive. JUSTIN ELLIS AND GERMAIN FORD (COLUMBUS, OH) ARE THE BEST FORD DEALER IN THE MIDWEST. I brought my Maverick Tremor home today.

Placed an order on October 13, 2021 for an XL Hybrid. We figured 2-3 months. 5 months on the high end. 8 days later Justin called me at said he had an EB XL AWD that I could have at MSRP if I wanted it.

That is the only time I had ever sat in or drove a Maverick. Foolishly I declined it as I wanted a Hybrid and was dead set on getting one. Foolish. STUPID me. My son is 4 here.

The Deal

Ordered through Justin Ellis at Germain Ford in Columbus, OH. Over the last 21.5 months I have text Justin hundreds of times regarding my Maverick and Bronco orders. Justin delivered a Base Sasquatch Bronco to me at MSRP early in 2022.

I've also never put a deposit down on any order, and he is as knowledgeable of a salesman not named Tim Bartz.

Sticker on my Maverick was 35,280 but I had $480 in price protection plus X-Plan (every Germain Maverick ordered got hosed on COVP status for 22 to 23 change over).

I was trading in a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Long Range with 14k miles and a rock chipped windshield. Not sure if you've paid attention lately - but the value of the Model 3 has taken one of the biggest shits in automotive history.

Before going in and seeing it - I told myself I would not spend more than $2,000 total to make the switch.

With my discounts the Maverick initially came to $34k and they told me they would give me $34k for the Model 3. Then they did some black magic trickery and hooked up another $2,700 in discount/incentives on the Maverick and cut me a check for $2,710.

They did this knowing that I would have likely purchased the Maverick if I could have walked out without writing a check

Effectively my Maverick cost $31,300 - which is simply insane.

The TREMOR

My son is my best friend. He's 6 now in the photo today. He loves cars and he accompanies me to the dealer every time we go to "Ford". They know him there.

He loved the Model 3 and I wouldn't have made the deal without his approval - but like me he fell back in love all the same and parting ways was easy enough.

Ford Maverick My 21.5 Month Maverick Journey Has Ended - Happily. IMG_4678

THE GOOD

  • Ride Quality. Really enjoyed the XL Maverick we drove in 2021. The Tremor takes it to an entirely different level. Where the Model 3 was so unforgivingly stiff and punishing (but you got go kart handling) the Tremor soaks up pot holes and road imperfections with minimal suspension or tire thumping. I did bring PSI down to 33 all around.
    • A sub point to ride quality is the seat comfort quality but it comes with a major caveat below
    • Falkens are meaty and aggressive without being too loud. I think they are likely a big contributor to the ride quality
  • Initial quality (fit and finish). Had some really big issues with my Bronco so I spent a lot of time looking my Maverick over. It's well built from what I can tell. I found zero rust (I know it's coming) Furthermore - interior quality surprised me (again) where I think it might be better than the Bronco and really is just a step below the Tesla as far as touch materials and light years ahead of it with the creaks and rattles.
  • Under seat storage. So much stuff was able to fit down in there. Trauma + first aid kid, multiple bow saws, hammock, straps, tarp, ground tarps, emergency blankets, hatchet, hiking poles, helinox ground chair, folding table, and the list goes on.
  • Headlights are surprisingly bright. I was afraid that I would not be happy because the M3s were excellent. These will do just fine
  • Never thought I would use the InteliKey Pad and thought it was crazy how big of a deal people made about it.
    • Went from the dealer to my disc golf league and the disgusting physical key I will forever despise never left the Mav and the keypad is great!
Ford Maverick My 21.5 Month Maverick Journey Has Ended - Happily. IMG_4680

THE MEH
  • The Physical Key & Fob. Will bug me forever and ever and ever
  • I thought that XLT Lux package came with dual zone climate, but it is just a single zone auto climate which is fine for a truck I guess but it's definitely not dual zone. Also when in "auto" mode I shouldn't have to tell it to turn on the A/C to achieve a desired temp.
  • When I drove the XL EB I was surprised at how peppy it felt. The 2.0EB/8spd drivetrain combo is smooth but I don't find it powerful. That being said, I haven't leaned into the throttle more than 50% yet however it doesn't have that visceral pull or feel of the 2.3EB/10spd that my bronco had - even if the Maverick is quicker.
    • Hard to hear the turbo spool at all
    • Power is linear and 35 comes pretty quick and again - smoothly - but it doesn't feel powerful to me
    • A 2.3 in this thing would have made it SO much fun
  • Hard to argue with "free" upgraded all weather mats but they leave a bit to be desired. I don't want to splash down for better ones because these are, adequate - but I likely will
  • Engine block heater - is legit just zip tied to a tube of the radiator and you have to open the hood to use it
    • When added to the new Chevy Colorado they put the plug into the grill with a weather seal and a connector you use on your extension cord. This is the way.
THE UNACCEPTABLE
  • I have the power seat and @Shay has pointed out numerous times that front seat height adjustment is hinged however he was always reviewing an XL or the XLT without the lux package. I would have never thought the power seat would be hinged but it is, and that to me is unaccpetable
    • I LOVE the way I fit in almost all Fords. I find them comfortable and the Maverick is no different but I would love to be able to adjust the front of the bottom cushion downward without having to pitch forward and raise the seat up. I could see it being an issue on longer road trips where the front of the bottom seat cushion is pushing on your hammys.

SUMMARY

We'll see how the next few weeks go getting it broken in but I am so happy. Was it worth 21.5 months? Hell no, nothing is. However if I held those 21.5 months against the Tremor I would have never bought it. All is good. Water under the bridge.

@Ford Motor Company - I thank you in advance for the incoming congrats. I stayed pumped!

Thanks man! It's been quite the journey we've been on as you know!

Typical of this process I was 3 hours into an 11 hour road trip to the beach for 9 days when my sales guy text me a picture of it on the truck, "IT'S HERE!"

I really didn't expect them to hold onto it, I even told him he could sell it if he wanted but they held it for me and I'm so happy they did.

1,600 miles in my wife's Odyssey and I sat back down in the M3 and exlaimed, "there's no way I'm getting rid of you" - which is pretty much a death knell for any vehicle I own and sure enough about 18 hours later it was gone.

I'm still just flabbergasted by the fact they got the Tremor down to 31,300 for me.

Glad you got your Tremor, and nice review! As of yesterday My Tremor is in San Antonio. I found out it was in transit on the way to the beach as well. I'm just outside of Austin, so it's getting close!
That's a good sign! I had not sat in or driven a Maverick since October 2021 so I wasn't really sure what I was in for but the Tremor just crushed it for me.

Happy endings are always great. I am hoping for one myself here shortly.

I love how everyone is so different in life. I love the SecuriPad keypad and would have a tough time living without it. Dual zone climate in a vehicle the size of the Mav where the two front occupants are literally sitting a foot away from each other always seemed a bit redundant and a solution to a non existent problem to me. Maybe even a parameter to the term First World Problem. :ROFLMAO:

I totally agree on the need of the dual zone - I personally have never used the dual zone in any vehicle I've owned for front seat occupants - just the auto climate. We do use tri-zone for kids in the rear for the van.

Just pointing out it was supposed to be dual zone and is not.

For the SecuriPad - I've already fallen in love with it and the physical key no longer bugs me as much.

Nice review. I still think I pulled off the cheapest Maverick Tremor buy out there. $29,620. Worth every penny. Only option I got was the inverter, SIBL with free cargo management, and the HPR. I went in knowing it would be a long wait and all my vehicles are 30 years old and over 200,000k so waiting wasnt a big deal for us, it will be almost 20 months when ours gets on island next week. Though we already put 4550 mainland miles on it in June.

For sure I think the XLT Tremors are going to go down in history as the sweet spot for the 2nd generation Mavericks.

Congrats! I like that they carried the denim look over to the blackout Tremor interior. Still looks great with that orange stitching. Does the Lariat version have orange stitching too?

I went all in on the XLT trim - engine block heater, remote start, manual sliding window, SIBL, lux pkg, moonroof.

I was excited to pay $34k for it. To pay as little as I did - I agree it will go down as one of best trims of the 1st gen (truck) Mavs.

Yep - Lariat gets black ActiveX with orange tremor stitching and badging.

I didn't want anything to do with the orange stitching or the denim seats but for me it is just enough inside and out to give it nice contrast and pop.

I forgot I did get the slider window too. Gotta have a way to treat the dogs lol. Also I so love the denim. I wear jeans almost exclusively, even half the time I go swimming! Its a real shame we are putting seat covers over the denim.

Great to hear about Germain! I've never used them before but I did place my order with them in Sept '22 for a Maverick. They just rolled my order over into a '24. So far so good, I'm just way down the allocation list.

I waited forever but I was stubborn and wouldn't budge off a hybrid for a long time and then when I did Ford started scheduling hybrids..ha.

It all ended well though. The Tremor for me is the only way to go.

Congratulations, I would have ordered that color but it is exclusive to 2023 and the Tremor package.

The truck also did not feel "fast" to me during my test drive but the speedometer doesn't lie. I also wasn't in Sport mode and I'm sure it was running 87 octane.
