I just purchased a 2023 Maverick Lariat without the luxury package upgrade. I did purchase the Co-Pilot 360 upgrade. I have the backup camera but no audible alert when backing up telling you how far you are from something. I assumed it would be included with the Co-Pilot 360 and operate just like my Ford Edge, telling me how close I am to stuff behind. It only makes sense that it would be included standard like the cameras now, but of course the manufacturers are not going to make them standard until the government mandates it. My salesman says it requires a proximity sensor. My questions are:

1. What did I need to order originally to get the audible alert? the Lariat Luxury Package for $2k+ more?

2. Is there a way to add the sensor now through Ford or aftermarket? Is it plug-in?

All 4 of:

Lariat trim
Lariat Luxury Package
Co-Pilot360 package
Co-Pilot360 Assist package

As for retrofits, you'd need the sensors, the bumper that they're integrated into, the wiring, and would need to enable it via dealer IDS or FORScan.

Check the gauge screen settings for the driver assist options. By default, the rear assist was off on mine and I had to enable it.

I just got my Maverick this week, and I already miss the backup warning beep too. My '16 focus had it, and it did save me from an "oops" once or twice. I rarely actually had it beep, but when it did, it was a good thing. I think I'll miss it less, once I get used to the new truck. Right now its so new, I don't have my bearings yet with it on how close I am to things...

I would bet you have an audible alert. I have the back up camera and when on and someone or something goes behind the Maverick it goes off. Have someone walk behind the truck with it in reverse I bet it goes off.

Cross traffic alert is a different system then what the OP and other members are referring to. CTA comes standard with the basic CP360 option available on the XL, XLT, and Lariat.

Its frustrating that they gated the backup sensors in the highest trim options. It should be standard.

Nope. What you are referring to is the cross traffic audible alert. What I am referring to is what Ford refers to as the parking (or proximity) sensor alert. This gives you an alert as you get closer to a stationary or standing object behind you and increases in frequency the closer you get. JSUS above is correct that it is only included in the Assist group which is only in the Luxury upgrade package.

Absolutely it should be standard! But Ford is again playing games until the government forces them to be rational and fair.

Yes, you are right. I see now that it is only included in the Assist Package vs the regular Co-Pilot 360. Cleverly disingenuous on Ford's part to force upgrades, which I might have done if I had known this was in the Lariat Lux package upgrade.

And from your response I see that it would cost more to add aftermarket then to purchase originally.

Fleet orders are an exception, so if your work XLs do beep when you're getting close to something in reverse, not just for cross-traffic, then they are fleet builds. Need to register as a fleet operator with Ford and meet requirements to order fleet-only options.

How can the government force anyone to do something they can’t do themselves? Standard and fair can be quite subjective but I agree with you, it should be there.
