Hey Bob, I assume these are the ones you got? I'd read some early concerns about mudflaps in general being in a position to wear the paint, actually coming into contact with them paint. Did you see that with these, any such concern?

The comes in contact with the paint on the sides. I plan to get some tape on my next trip to Lowe's.

I also didn't use their screws. I simply used the anchors that were already on the truck.

How did the front mud flaps fit in regards to where the (running board?) plastic cover/plastic wheel liner/body... etc all meet? If you follow what I am trying to say...

As the unibody design and (for me) living in the rust belt with snow/ice/salt and being my first new vehicle, I am worried about the inevitable rusting under the (running boards?). My escape has gaps where all the plastic wheel well/body/running board? connect and would hold onto water/snow.

did the placement of the mud flaps kind of cover any of those spots where water/snow/salt could get in and speed up rusting down the road, or did the mud flaps not really cover anything like that...or would me purchasing them possibly make that issue worse by possibly trapping more stuff behind them?

Explorer stays, even if I can't take home right now. They wanted me to take a $16,000 loss on a vehicle I've never driven. So, I will be taking the Escape down for them to look at.

Outcome of that trade offer will determine whether I continue with this forum...

They gave me the option to swap to a non-recalled vehicle at the time and I took the chance Ford wouldn't take too long. I was obviously wrong. They no longer sell impacted Explorers because they want to limit the number of people affected. And keep in mind, I am using their (very nice) vehicles as a loaner 100% free. Ford is not reimbursing them for that because of the aforementioned "shouldn't have sold it" position. So, they are paying the price for my choice.

Ford Credit is also 100% willing to suspend my Explorer payments until I get it home (I've called and asked). But all that does is delay payments I would have to make at some point anyway. So, I'm paying them because I expect I'll get the Explorer soon and will already have made a dent in my balance.

In Alabama, it is a used vehicle once my name goes on the title. So, my only other option would be Lemon Law and that process is so slow that Ford will send out any fix by then. Alabama law also limits dealer liability; Ford itself would have to buy the vehicle back after their legally mandated allowance to try to fix it, of which their temporary fix would qualify.

It was supposed to be a software fix and Ford generally gets those fixed within a short time. Even Tim mentioned on his livestream having Explorers stuck in the same situation. In fact, there is an F-150 recall and they can't even order the parts to fix it until a customer buys it. They want to fix them ahead of time.

So yes, the dealer "should have known" but I have been given multiple options to not be impacted at the moment. I'm choosing to keep making payments on the vehicle and plan to get it within the next couple months. At which point, I will have a brand new Explorer with a 3.9% loan that I've already been paying on.

I can still gripe about it.

FWIW, I lemon lawed a Ford in 2-3 weeks about 8-9 years ago in GA. It was an open and shut case as in GA if they had it longer than x number of days it qualified. Not sure of Bama's laws but worth a check.

Good deal. Salty roads and slush aren't really a problem here. I'm just trying to reduce the amount of mud flung up onto the paint.

Yeah, wife and I are surprised how big the bed is on such a small truck. I was all on board for a cap until we did a little bit of testing with how much it holds. We should be able to fit everything we took the beach in the F-150 in the Maverick's bed with a tonneau.

So, the debate rages....

Pretty much my reasoning for buying a Mav in place of a Bronco. It'll hold pretty much exactly what we need it to for far less.

I got some of this tape this evening and reinstalled my mudflaps. I only used the tape where the flap touched paint: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Scotch-Extreme-Mounting-1-in-x-5-ft-Double-Sided-Tape/5002000693

I don't plan on ever taking the mudflaps off and the tape helped it fit tighter. If I ever do take them off, it will be to replace them with something else. In past experience with this tape, it comes off pretty cleanly if you do it right.

$500. They charged a 3% Visa surcharge, but $500 was the total including tax for the standard.

LOL, I called the Huntsville location a while back, they told me $675. I questioned it, assuming they didn't realize how small a Mav was. I think the only thing they DID realize is I'm a woman. Sigh....
