I am very intrigued by this statement.

Free from your insurance company(no deductible)?
Is this a state law?
Who pays for this if not insurance?
Arizona is covered also. I understand CD8123's shock. When I moved here in '07 and had a windshield cracked I was surprised 'nothing out of pocket"... I even contacted my insurance company and asked them how much fraud they think was happening... BUT after living in the desert where you sometimes have to "dodge the rocks".... Thank you insurance company for at least allowing me to get some of my money back.....

I believe my replacement was either last year or year before. Rates never went up. I have Progressive.

If I remember correctly (which I barely remember what I did yesterday...), I contacted Safelite directly and they just asked for my policy information. May have even submitted everything online. Maybe it's different if you make an insurance claim and then they send someone out?
It was a long time ago and I can relate to last's weeks memory loss! My insurance sure has gotten more affordable with age though.

Couple additional points here. Buick has had these windshields for many years as part of their "quiet-tuning" process. That said, those who apply a ceramic tint to their front windshield can achieve a similar result.

Do tell - Ceramic is legal and reduces cabin noise ?

ok...so could someone that drives a non-acoustic actually measure the db’s, and then do the same with an acoustic windshield?

It might be fun to see the actual measurements (realizing phones aren’t professional equipment.). There are a few decent db measuring apps out there (free).

Agree - But the sound difference to me on back to back test drives with / without was pretty noticeable. Figuring the Active/X seats might also absorb sound better than cloth but that's just a guess -

We have two Kia Sedona minivans in our household. Same engine, same generation. One is an LX with no acoustic windshield, the second is a top of the line SX with an acoustic windshield (and possibly other sound reducing on the firewall). The difference in road, engine and wind noise between those two trims is noticeable. I would guess ~10dB. Not earth shattering, but definitely noticeable.

I will tell you this, though. I had to replace the acoustic windshield recently when a windshield flew off the wrecker in front of me and took out mine at highway speed. The acoustic windshield was $750 more (parts only). I didn't pay anything out of pocket. But the body shop who did the replacement mentioned the difference to me. Also the labor is higher, but that has more to do with the camera system for the smart driving/advanced cruise features.

In SC you don't get charged for a windshield either but we all pay higher premiums to cover the free stuff.:) Agree if you need a replacement make sure they fit the correct one. Your Florida statute only says deductibles do not apply but your insurance company keeps track of how many windshields they pay out on your policy or at least they do in SC.
Sooner or later the insurance carriers gonna get ya!

It looks like through Ford Parts the windshields all have the same part number across all trims. The part number states Acoustic Glass.

Post was read - Sound reduction not a benefit of the 3M/Ceramic - What an I missing ?
The part of my post that said "There are a few other resources online that point to the anti-shatter features and reduction in ambient noise."

Umm ok / next. Would be interesting to know of an out of pocket cost to upgrade to Acoustic -
