Looks great and so simple. qq though. I don't have a SIL, what would I put behind the d-ring to prevent damaging the paint?

Nice. I had a Tacoma previously and not only did I have to buy a HUGE T55 Torx and use a 1/2" impact, but the spots in the bed for tie downs sucked and they were not even designed for tie downs. AND... I had to use heat to loosen the bolt. So glad this bed has more options, even if it is much smaller overall.

I also had to cut the mat so it would fit over the tie downs - which don't fold down but are the best option for Tacoma tie downs since there is no pivot/swivel.

And you can't fit the bed rails with the tonneau cover either.

I don't have to do anything to the Maverick bed. Just add a toolbox and a tonneau cover and I'm g2g. I also plan on painting some boards to section the bed of when I need them. Real simple. Love it.

I don't know any of the shell product that will help you.... But...try to use transparent cap from Pringle chips. It's big enough and thin that it will not slide around. It the best solution that I can think.

that's genius. i was thinking some type of rubber membrane, but pringles lid is so much easier (and tastier).

Buy plastic washers from the hardware store. Probably less than $1 and you can get extra's for the future. But honestly, if they are installed correctly, they will stay put and you shouldn't have to worry about the paint. If you decide to take them off during a trade in, stuff like that will be considered "normal" - they already mark off thousands for it when they put your vehicle in KBB under "good/average" condition - which they always do.

Ya man...seems like a no brainer. I bought those rings too. I hope they dont rattle. I think those rings are fine for light duty and since there are so many of them you can use more straps but with less tension. Hey dumb question for you.....I want to order the same bolts but I cant click on your screen shot ......am I just being an idiot or do I have to actually write the info down to retain it? Nobody writes things down anymore :)

As per your comment on rattling... I used orange ear plugs to stop rattling. Just squeeze and push into metal channel. Will last you 3-4 years.

I plan to use plastic washers/spacers. In the past when I attached any thing to the body I would use a squirt of silicone sealer to protect the threads and body from rust.

This is how I installed running boards on a 2005 F150

Unfortunately plastic washers are not as big as the base of d-ring assembly. It's about 2 inches. It is recommended to to have d-ring assembly/plate to be flat with surface to insure structural integrity. So....Pringle lid works fine as it made out of same material PP5.

I am not opposed to a DIY solutoin such as Pringle lids though this assumes one eats Pringles.

It also depends on how much time you want to put into this project. I have a large list of projects in process or pending so saving a little time for a reasonable price would help in my case.

Plastic washers/spacers come in various sizes.

I tried the stainless steel black oxide from Amazon, mailed from China. After the first rain they ALL had rust evidence.
