Look to be almost the exact same. Just different brands!

I believe the strut should be mounted the other way around, with the wide end attached to the truck body.

Yeah, I think they mounted it that way so their branding would be visible. Someone attached the "Rough Country" label to the wrong side of the struts, if they wanted it visible once installed.

Installed it today and all went smooth. I did purposely install it upside down from the instructions. I tried it both ways and it does make a difference in that first several inches of opening.
