I know tire size has been beaten to death around here but I don’t see many people mention wheel offset.

Taking delivery of my XL/AWD in the next day or 2. Had the dealer install a 2” rough country lift. At pickup I’ll be rolling with the stock steelies and I haven’t ordered my wheels and tires yet. From all the reading I’ve done, the consensus is 245/65/17 will fit no problem. As for bigger tires, those answers seem all over the place and very few mention wheel size.

Id like to run 245/70/17 A/T tires on fuel zephyr 17X8.5 wheels. These wheels have a 25mm offset as opposed to the factory wheels 35-39 offset(not 100% sure that is correct) I like the tires to really fill the wheel wells up from side view. don’t care much how wide they are.

sorry if this is rehashing what’s been talked about but I couldn’t find much info on this specific tire size with this specific wheel offset.

Can't help you on this, but good luck on getting a response. I posted a question about wheel offset over three months ago and never got a single response.

yeah, like it doesn’t exist lol… that’s why I posted. Lots of people post up saying this or that fits like it’s fact but no mention of offset.

I can't help with the wheel question, but I have the 2" rough country strut lift. I am running 265/65r17s. I have some minimal rubbing on the fender liner but only at full lock. For fuel economy the weight of the tire is more important than the OD. I am averaging 23-25 mpg with 75% city driving on my XLT with 4k. A bit off topic, but maybe it will get more clicks 🤷‍♂️.

Thanks for responding. what wheels do you run.?

265/65/17 is on my list as well

my choice of wheel offset moves the entire wheel out away from suspension about 1/2” further than a stock wheel. A 245/70/17 is the same 30.5” height as the 265/65/17 but an inch narrower. My layman’s brain says yes but I’d like other opinions

some dealer out in Kansas made a YouTube video of a 2” lifted Maverick with the same fuel wheels I want. They had some very aggressive mid tires and they said 31” tall with no rubbing.

I'm running my stock wheels. I am considering a thin wheel spacer, maybe like 1/4". I think that would eliminate all rub even at full lock. I was also looking at lug adapters to get a more common lug pattern. When I was looking at tires I tried limiting it to no more than 40# that narrowed the search quite a bit.

That setup will push the tire out about 1 1/4 past stock

I only run 245/65 but my Reika wheels are 17x8 with a +20 offset and everything has been great. From what I’ve seen, 245/70 seems to be somewhat dependent on brand. Sounds like the Toyo OCIII in that size runs just a hair smaller compared to others and eliminates rubbing. I thought about going to 245/70 when I switched wheels but saw enough conflicting info that I didn’t want to deal with it. I might go to the Maxxis RZR A/T next as everything I researched showed it being just a little bigger in 245/65 than most. FWIW my setup is also paired with the AirDesign slim fender flares and Rokblokz

Good luck!

Are you running any lift? Or stock height?
*Edit*
Nevermind, after some looking I remember your thread a few days ago with the sweet roof top tent. You have the HRG spacer kit with camber bolts 👍. Good lookin rig. I will look for some better wheel and tire pics. From what I've seen I think like the looks of the +20s

Mine didn't rub with the 245/65/17s until I added spacers, granted I went with 2" spacers and have the RTR lift.

Wow, looking at the wheel move as some one else turns the wheel, I don't see where it would rub. But 2" spasers are a bit harder to visualize in comparison.

When I had my shop, we developed a calculator that compared stock vs. aftermarket wheels based on offset and rim width (offset alone is not the complete picture). The way we used that with the customer was simple.

First, we measured from the stock sidewall to the edge of the wheel opening. Then we plugged in the stock vs. new wheel information and the calculator showed how far the wheel would move out. The online offset calculators can do this as well but you have to treat the difference in wheel width (if any) as a spacer to get a more accurate result.

Since we already had the stock measurement, the customer now knew where the new sidewall would be relative to the wheel opening. We could help them visualize it by extending the tape measure from the stock wheel out to the new sidewall position.

These wheels have a 25mm offset as opposed to the factory wheels 35-39 offset
The moment you are talking about a different wheel width, the offset changes. If you have a 7 inch rim with 37mm offset, then go to a 9 inch rim the offset is no longer 7 inches to have the wheel still be centered on the hub.

There are many online calculators with graphical representations showing you the difference between two wheels.

My favourite is this one.
