I would agree with it, with no deposit and the ability to walk when it comes, just like it my own customer order.

Then when the 24 model opens up, I would order exactly what I want.

If the 23 gets built, you are out nothing.
If it doesn't you still have a 24 ordered
If it does get built, you get to decide if you want it or not.
If you do buy it and eventually the 24 gets built, you can decide if want to sell the 23 and buy the 24.

Just remember that there will be no price protection on it. That only applies if it is sold to the person who ordered it.
Good to know. Thanks.

This is my ideal plan.

I was able to take over an existing order. I was told something to the effect that since it had been scheduled for production that I could not make changes to the build :( and man o man did I want to add all of that inexpensive stuff before hand. Basically they did not change anything on the order and it is still under the original buyers name as far as I know. When the dealer gets it in for the previous buyer they already have my deposit for $4k over MSRP. My truck has been " in production " for a week and hoping to see the " built " tab light up soon. I was willing to pay over MSRP because of timing.....I want an all in one vehicle with amazing gas mileage and I will be selling my two existing vehicles to be replaced by the Maverick. I would love a 24 and all of you smart folks that somehow have been able to by multiple Mavericks good on ya. I just dont have any patience.......so I will be driving mine and having recalls done while so many others will be impatiently waiting but saving 4k over what I paid and getting the exact truck they want.

A local dealership has a few canceled orders and say they can “reserve” one for me. Since the truck is not built yet I can still modify the order to the specs I want. I’m going in on Thursday to talk with them and possibly get my name on a truck. Has anyone heard of a dealer doing this? I thought I read that a canceled order can’t be transferred. If anyone has some info I can take with me or point me to a thread if this has already been discussed. Thanks.
Yes, this happened to me. the dealer had an order( Dec 2021 ) that someone backed out of in the early stages of the order ( Apr 2022 ). I was able to change everything. As things progressed, the constraints came into play. I really wanted the truck (47 yrs since last new truck) so I was willing to pay 10% over MSRP. Constraints kept coming in, dropping options just to try to get a truck. June comes along so I decided to rebuild a 22 on line, thinking I would be rolled over to a 23. Just for kicks I pushed the "availably" button and a truck was available about 70 miles away. Short story, bought the truck at MSRP in July 2022, other dealer returned my deposit! (that truck finally came in Dec 22). It took a lot of perseverance and a lot of searching over all New York State, but I got it! A message to all: If you put in the extra effort you will get your truck, it' out there! Oh by the way, the original person who ordered my truck (in Oct 2021 ) passed away one week before the truck came in (Jun 2022).

My dealer had a canceled order that had been built. It was just what I wanted, so I put $1000 down on it. I have a bill of sale with the price to be paid, amount for my trade, taxes, etc. So far the only thing a bit strange is that it shipped 5 weeks ago. The dealer is in MI. Fingers crossed.

The customer "canceled" their order/reservation with the dealer, which likely resulted in a refund of the original order holder's deposit.

The dealer did not cancel the order in the system.

The dealer is offering the order to OP, not transferring it but not canceling the order in the system, and since it is not scheduled yet, changes can be made to it.

Dealer will likely require deposit for vehicle, refundable, it sounds.

As long as there is no ADM and OP gets confirmation of it, sounds like it would be just fine.
I agree, there are still some great dealers out there. In my case I asked the family dealership owner what the price would be. He answered, "MSRP, my dad and granddad would roll over in their graves if I pulled that trick on our customers" (MSRP +), I sold Honda motorcycles and ATV's for 40 years and never sold over MSRP. Every customer was special, I always looked for future sales!
