A local dealership has a few canceled orders and say they can “reserve” one for me. Since the truck is not built yet I can still modify the order to the specs I want. I’m going in on Thursday to talk with them and possibly get my name on a truck. Has anyone heard of a dealer doing this? I thought I read that a canceled order can’t be transferred. If anyone has some info I can take with me or point me to a thread if this has already been discussed. Thanks.

The bigger question is for how much?

How can they "reserve" a truck that they do not even know will be built? I certainly would not give then any kind of non-refundable deposit and I would want the exact OTD price in writing if the truck is built.

I took over a cancelled order however was not able to modify it because it was already had a scheduled build week. Not sure how they could reserve you one not yet scheduled unless they are just talking someone's spot from last year's orders and hoping it gets produced this year

I would not trust them. There is zero reason for a dealer to want to sell a "cancelled order" before they get it on the lot...when they can determine what the market will bear. We are quickly coming to the time when existing orders will NOT be built. In my mind, better to find an honest dealer and order a 2024 in July. I would NOT buy/order from this dealer.

Yeah. If they can in fact modify and reserve it for me, it will all come down to the price and deposit. I’m not willing to go over MSRP. If this works out I’ll still be putting in a my24 order in July to expand my odds of getting what I want.

Thanks. That’s my biggest concern. They have a few mavs on their lot with $5-10k markups. I don’t see them letting one go through their lot at MSRP if they could just get it and make it up. Unless since it is canceled they need it to be in someone’s name? Not sure how it all works.

Did the order transfer to you or did they just process the original persons order and sell it to you? How much transparency was there? Did you get access to all the tracking of the build?

To me this smells funny from the getgo. Why would they turn down a markup that all of them are placing on turn down orders to let someone else reserve it when it has not been built? Unless they are going to charge an ADM, they would not be looking for someone to take one they could make more money on if and when it gets built.

The customer "canceled" their order/reservation with the dealer, which likely resulted in a refund of the original order holder's deposit.

The dealer did not cancel the order in the system.

The dealer is offering the order to OP, not transferring it but not canceling the order in the system, and since it is not scheduled yet, changes can be made to it.

Dealer will likely require deposit for vehicle, refundable, it sounds.

As long as there is no ADM and OP gets confirmation of it, sounds like it would be just fine.

I believe it was a small fleet order that got cancelled because there where 3 identical trucks that became available. i got a photo of the dealer invoice which I then was able to track the order on the ford site. dealer is good and honoring the MSRP from before the increase earlier this year. Should hopefully be arriving this week or next

Thanks for the info. I’m hoping that’s how it plays out.

I'm guessing it's an EB and not a hybrid?

If it is an EB - some dealers would rather have the guaranteed sale (or near guaranteed sale) and focus on other inventory. If you don't buy it, they still have an option of ADM if it hits the lot.

I don't find this shady at all.

Yeah. I’m looking for an XLT FX4 with 4K tow.
