Our dealer tried to add on a paint and fabric protection package …for $998.

We said we didn’t want it. Sales rep said, “We put it on all the vehicles we sell.”

We said, well, that may be, but you didn’t mention it at the time we ordered it (either time), and we do not want it.

He said he’d check with the sales mgr. … Then told us again it was “mandatory” … And then further gave us a line about how they were contractually obligated to do it. (?)

We were adamant about NOT paying for this … and also that we did not want any dealer badging on the truck. (If they want to advertise their business on our vehicle, then they should pay US to do it…)

End result — When we picked up our truck and sat down to do the paperwork, we were told that the paint and protection package was applied … because it is part of their new vehicle prep … but that we didn’t have to pay for it. But then they added we wouldn’t be able to file any claims against it, since we didn’t pay for it.

Fine with us. ….

We did concede to having a dealer license plate frame put on, which appeased them a bit.

I won't be upset if they add it for free, that's fine with me.

Pulse braking is that annoying add-on that causes the brake lights (or sometimes just the center/high mounted light) to strobe when you first put touch the brake pedal. I hate it. I'd fight it and say you don't want any electrical mods on the vehicle due to warranty concerns and the various electrical issues that have been reported with the hybrid.
Definitely don’t let a dealer mess with anything electrical. I have had one instance where the dealer burned up shorted out the wiring in the dash installing a stereo and another where the signal wires were crossed for the trailer hitch wiring. There is also the cost of the yahoo’s doing the work.

What a rip off. You can buy the pulse modules on Amazon for less than $15. You can even buy brake light bulbs that have built in pulse. Just swap the bulb.
Or don't, because it's both annoying as hell and illegal in many states. Including the OP's state of Washington.

My Maverick just shipped, I went to the dealer to get a price breakdown, he told me they add "Pulse Braking" to 100% of the vehicles that come in, it's $600 and I don't want it. He makes it seem like it's non negotiable, what can I do? He's the General Sales Manager.
Make sure you send the salesman and sales manager an email to tell them you don’t want and won’t pay for add-ons. Having a written instruction can be valuable in the future.

Good advice, I just sent the email.

Would driving the “flashy brake lights” Mav from a pulse-braking state to a non-compliant state be a problem?

I'm not a lawyer, but it's my understanding that the "state of registration" guides the rules that are applied. But then, I tend to do my best to abide by the "uniform code for motor vehicles" rules.

First, yours is not "inventory" but a custom order. Second, if he is adamant on the addendum then see if he can offer something that you do want like window tint. They are just trying to make a little more on the sale. You can't blame him for trying and he does have the leverage in this situation.
That's what I would do. Tell him you don't want it due to the illegality of it, but if he wants to add for example window tinting for the same price, I'd do that. Never had it before but all 3 of my wife's cars have it and it's REALLY NICE! Keeps the heat down inside and will help with any sun damage to plastic surfaces. If they are given a change to still make the same $$$ or close to it, I can't imagine they would pass it up to just swap add-ons.

If it comes down to it I'll definitely try that option, I email the General Sales Manager today, he said he'll take care of me, keeping my fingers crossed 🤞

Excellent. I hope they keep their word. If you "have to" pay for something aftermarket, I'd much rather it be window tint than those stupid brake lights. I personally can't stand them. All the stupid tuner cars have them in my area. Talk about annoying.

Thanks for the advice, I'm concerned that if I refuse it then they might not sell me my Maverick, I initially told him I didn't want it, that's when he told me it's added to 100% of the inventory.
sounds like it going to be 99.9% of the inventory, don't fall for that , that is bs and if you have any problems contact Ford customer assistance and your local Better Business Bureau, and if your state has one even the state board of consumer affairs

Mine tried that with me for $400, I told them that I didn't want it, period, end of discussion. You do not have to accept dealer addons if you didn't order it with them.

We just opted-out and paid MSRP+ tax yesterday.
Sales mgr. said it’s another feature that will likely be included within a few years on all new vehicles. Resulting from Lobbyist / Congress pressure to keep adding ‘safety’ features.
