Don't you want the least abrupt change in speed possible on icy roads? This is what slippery does for you: the least abrupt changes in speed/torque.

You can mimic anything in any mode with your foot though. Is just how do you want the truck biased?

Low gives strong and abrupt regenerative braking and is usually the opposite of what you want in snow & ice or potential hydroplane conditions.

Wondering the same thing. My bar or box is never long. My gas mileage is never great. Usually around 35 MPG and 33 when I take long highway trips at 75 mph. I have suspected that the battery is not the same capacity it had when it was new but I can't figure a way to check it. The small box raises my suspicions again.
35 mpg from a Mav hybrid on a long trip at 75 mph is not bad. Calculated the old way or per the dashboard?

I got 36 mpg (calc’d) on a 1500 mi trip to FL and back to GA. Some hilly interstate but mostly flat FL interstate and highways at 70 mph or less. Elevation drop from ~1,100 ft to 0.

A blue bar on top of the white in hybrid drive seems to mean: Lower throttle (torque request) to here and the engine will shut off.

It comes on and gets more pronounced when battery charge is high and climbing.

It's not the only time you can get into EV though. You can get EV at any time (well 99% of the time) on a warm engine by taking your foot off the torque pedal (throttle) completely for a second or two and gently reapply.

HTH
Do you mean a blue rectangular outline on top of a white bar (=veh in hybrid mode; both electric motor and gas engine on, I suppose)? I have never seen a solid blue bar (= veh in electric mode; ICE engine off) on top of a white bar.

This is all confusing. Where are technical write-ups or videos from Ford?

Blue outline of a bar, on top of a white one. Yes. Lower your "demand" for power to the blue section and the engine will go off.

I just did... call it Sacramento to Los Angeles Southbound I-5 at 80 mph. Probably averaged 70 mph over the entire 6.5 hours

Some normal, some slippery mode; at those speeds, sustained on cruise control, mode probably doesn't matter. Climbing the steeper North side of Grapevine (4500 foot Mt. pass) I set it to tow/haul for about 7-8 miles of the steep part. Just me and 2 dogs in the truck but it made it easy to stay in the left lane on the steep grade.

Had 36.3 MPG indicated on the dash.
Had 37.8 MPG at the pump which I don't believe. Must had topped off higher before leaving, and less after reaching destination.

On the return trip I had more time. Chose to stay in the right lane and drive 60 mph instead. Expected to post a phenomenal number to the board here. I was foiled by strong headwinds. Even with cruise set to 60 mph and taking 8 hours instead of 6.5, only have 38.9 MPG indicated. Air conditioning on a low setting all day.

So I guess moral of the story is:
I get high 40's and low 50's by staying on city streets, 45 mph and under.

Hi my name is Sandra. Live in Chattanooga, Tn. My 2022 maverick hybrid was delivered in March 2022. I currently have 8,500 mi. This is my daily driver. I drive to maximize MPG. I currently have a 44.7 mpg over the life of the truck. I feel the upper mpg limit is around 45. Has anyone done better than 45 mpg?

I don’t know about the upper limit but 45 is attainable. (My cumulative mpg is 42.0 on ~5,000 miles of driving.)

For the rest of us: What are your daily drives like? Speed, type of roads, mix of highway/city miles, approx percentage of electric miles? Mileage for your daily trips? Have you taken any long trips?

Does anyone believe 50 mpg’s is attainable overall?

I did almost 800 miles on a tank. Tank average was about 53 mpg.

All city. No speeds over 50.

Wow..had my hybrid two weeks, haven't been on the highway yet..almost dreading it as I assumed going 70 I would get way under 30 mpg. I am taking his word. Any one else getting that mpg going 70?

Well done, GPSMan. What did you do to achieve 53 mpg on a tank? Recently I averaged 52.5 mpg on a 56 mi round trip on crowded hilly Atlanta area interstates in rush hour. I think this is pretty good. (Usually I average about 48.5 mpg on this trip which i take about once a week.)

Now I need to work on my relatively short local trips. Getting the truck warmed up seems to be an issue. Winter temps have now subsided. Any suggestions?

My cumulative mpg’s are 42.0 on the dash on 5,000 mi on the truck. This includes from 36-38 on a 1,500 mi trip to FL and back from the Atlanta area.

Highway miles are not necessarily the enemy of mpg’s in a Mav hybrid. The trick is to get in electric mode as much as possible. 70 mph might be a bit high, though. Shoot for 65 maybe. Stay in the right lane on interstates. Use cruise control as much as possible. Drive in ECO mode. You have to select this every time you turn your truck on. Watch GPSMan’s postings. Finally, Google “getting the best mileage out of my ford maverick hybrid”.

I am currently over 800. Will fill up at my break to calculate total mpg. Am also tracking Trip #2 as data after hitting 0 miles left.

Thanks Curious Gary...I knew most of what you said except cruise control..which I will try, but how can I get back into Electric if I can't let of the gas pedal, I mean electric pedal? I thought using your right foot to vary speed can get more charge to the battery (clear as mud?)

I went to SJS a half a century ago. I expect by now, with the increase in population, tall buildings, etc. it's slow traveling around town...which is a good thing for MPG.
