Well I finally hit 20k and there have been a few things I’ve waited to really touch on concerning the Mav.

The hates
Thin windshield- recently I got a rock that hit the windshield and it cracked. I understand this happened but after many vehicles and traveling many miles down the interstate I’ve had many a rock hit my windshield. Unfortunately, it seems that like many other Mav owners we’ve come to believe that there is som inherent reason for this with some referencing the thickness of the windshield as the culprit.

freezing radio interface- I’ve had many times now where the radio screen freezes and can’t be reset without turning off the truck. This is happening without even connecting to Apple car play. Can get very annoying on long trips.

Gear shifter knob- I’m so far not a fan of the shifter knob. I know this isn’t unique to the Mav however it’s caused meseveral times to accidentally throw the truck into neutral while driving down the interstate just from stretching my legs.

overall-

I still love this truck after 20k miles!

Interesting to read other opinions. None of the things you listed bother me (I actually like the gear knob). My only real complaint after 16 months is that the plastics are too easily scratched. I can live with that given the price point.

I would prefer the knob I have knocked my present hand held shifter a number of times

I didn't like the shifter knob at first, but after a year of driving with it, I've grown accustomed to it and rather like it now.

I recently bought a Kia Sportage for the wife and have been driving it for a few months waiting on the Maverick to arrive. Got the Maverick last week. Both the Sportage and Maverick have the gear knob. When I started drive the Sportage, it only took me a day to get used to the knob, so when I started driving the Maverick, there was no learning curve. Most newer vehicles are going that way. It saves space in the center console for other tings, like storage and larger cup/bottle holders. For many years now, there has been no mechanical linkage from the shifter to the transmission, it's all electronic. They have added a artificial mechanical "feel" to the shifter to make it seem like you're actually shifting into drive, but all the shifter is doing is sending an electric signal to the transmission to shift into drive, park, neutral reverse, etc.. So, going to a knob is a natural progression of technology. Soon, all vehicles will have it. It doesn't both me at all. I never need to touch it while driving.

I find it weird (not arguing with you) that you accidently shift it into neutral while driving. I'm 6'3", 265lbs, so a rather big guy, and I fill out the drivers area, but the knob is nowhere near my leg and it sits so low in the center console that my arm is nowhere near it either when resting on the center arm rest. I have to "reach" down to it to access the knob. So I can't see how it could be accidently shifted while driving. But that's just me and how I fit in the drivers seat.

I haven't had the screen freeze on me (yet). Good to know that we can press the power button and forward button together to reset the screen. Thanks "Ford Truck Guy"

Apparently it's a big enough issue that Ford actually has a way to solve it and others know about it.

Not sure about the window yet. I live in Colorado and there are a lot of rocks and stuff on the roads. I've had a lot of rocks come up and hit my other vehicles' windshields, but thankfully haven't had a chipped/cracked window yet. The hot/cold cycles here makes windows crack even faster once they get a small chip in them. Hopefully I won't have that problem.

All in all, I'm very happy with the maverick so far.

Since you HATE (a very strong emotion) just sell it to someone who will love it.

Well I finally hit 20k and there have been a few things I’ve waited to really touch on concerning the Mav.

The hates

Rock hitting glass always has the rock winning.

freezing radio interface- I’ve had many times now where the radio screen freezes and can’t be reset without turning off the truck. This is happening without even connecting to Apple car play. Can get very annoying on long trips.
Just update the radio/interface software like everyone else has done so for the last 4 or more months which fixed the issue.

Gear shifter knob- I’m so far not a fan of the shifter knob. I know this isn’t unique to the Mav however it’s caused me several times to accidentally throw the truck into neutral while driving down the interstate just from stretching my legs.
Are you stretching your leg over the center console. If yes stop doing that.

I got used to the change to the shifter knob from a lever in about a month and actually love having it. No amount of stretching has ever hit the knob.

overall-

I still love this truck after 20k miles!
Your thread title and rant seem to say the opposite.

Reviews like this make me wonder if people have never owned a car before. Come to my dealership and you will see us replaced several $3000 windshields per week due to rock chips/cracks.

Also, there is a method for performing a reset on the radio while driving. Hold power and the forward button for a few seconds. I have not had to do it much, but a few times for sure.

I have over 45K miles with severe weather changes & coninuous road construction in michigan and I still have the original windshield (1 chip fixed at the bottom of drivers side), windshields are tested/windshields are structural and safety components of all newer vehicles. I know many people complain about thin paint and easily scratched plastics too as are more opinions and observations coming from their previous vehicles, etc... I wasn't a fan of the shifter knob, but I knew it before I bought and grown to like the extra space now. The radio is the only thing I can agree and not understand with the glitches in todays technology area and I just live with:cautious: and with so many positives fullfilling all my needs this is by far my favorite new vehicle I have ever purchased - bt again is only my opinion.
