Had my GPS on my phone and seen my speedometer is 2 km faster than my GPS. This effects my mileage on my truck. I have 15,000 km which should be only 12,000. Went to the dealer and was told tires have nothing to do with it. Odometers work off tire rotation as far as I know. Called Ford and that was hopeless. They contact the dealer and have the dealer call. Anybody else check there mileage?

Are you driving at 10 km/h indicated which is really 8 km/h? Otherwise, this math doesn't add up to 25% extra kilometers on the odometer...

Did you put on larger tires than what originally came with the truck?

I’m afraid this is going to be good.

And 97kph (60 mph) minus 2 is 95kph (59mph) which are both rounding errors and corrected with an extra pound or 2 of air in the tires....

I've never found GPS speed rating terribly accurate, so I wouldn't go by that. Are there any of those speed monitering signs in your area? When I first got my Maverick it was dead on with those, as soon as I changed to different tires (same size) the ODO was off by 3km/h (low).

Are you assuming that the phone is right and the speedometer is wrong?
Do you have any data to support the accuracy of the phone?

How is that "hopeless"? The dealer operates the service department that would be responsible for resolving any warranty claims. Have you tried to demonstrate your concern to the dealer so they can look into it for you? How can Ford help you if the service techs can't try to diagnose it?

Smartphones, especially older or lower end models, tend not to be the most accurate at discerning velocity (or location)... It's not a calibrated reading against which to measure the vehicle.

As suggested above, a radar speed sign is your best option if you're genuinely concerned.

That's closer to a 5:6 ratio vs. the 4:5 you used to calculate 12,000 km vs. 15,000 km - would be more like 14,400 km. That's still much different than only being 2 km/hr off. One might think you'd notice if the vehicle was ~17-20% slower than indicated on the speedometer, especially at freeway speeds. Sounds more like it's telling you something is 60 km away but that's more "as the crow flies", and the 72 km is the actual distance on available roads.

Out of curiosity, what's the difference between the digital speedometer on the screen and the analog gauge? The digital value is what's being used for the odometer.

Ford and Toyota are well known for undersizing tires so the can skew the cafe numbers and get better mpg. On my F150 had smaller tires than the standard. I called the manufacture and got my answer. Dunlap made that tire per ford spec. same size tire even Dunlap make it in the correct size. I bought Tremor takeoffs for it (1/2") diameter larger and my GPS slash radar speed was spot on.
Tell your dealer they don't know that GPS is accurate and tell have have a police officer clock the rig. The speedos are off.
My Maverick is 1mph off so I bumped a size larger and its spot on

Speedometers will always ( unless they have Police calibration ) read faster than actual speed. There are laws that cover that, basically saying the speedometer cannot read slower than actual speed.
But the concern over more miles showing than actual isn't related to the speedometer, the odometer handles that. I would be surprised if it isn't rather accurate. Compared to a gps....you have to be careful with that. A gps miles reading can be off quite a lot in curvy terrain. Find some straight roads to compare gps to your odometer. Or count by mile/km markers on highways.

In your car's computer is a variable set at the factory called rotations per mile. This is the number of times the tires will turn before you complete a mile. Every Ford I have ever owned is 2 MPH fast on the odemeter unless you adjust this number. So, if your odometer says you are going 60, you're actually going 58. Find the circumfrence of your tire and do the math and get that software and make the adjustment if you feel a need.

My first edition came with Michelin primacy tires that are Ford OEM specs they only have 8/32" tread and Michelin shows them to have 55k miles warranty whereas aftermarket primacy have 9/32" tread and carry 65k warranty. Tread composition and design may also be different. Michelin shows at least 14 different OEM primacy versions for different vehicles. Of interest the Toyota and Ford primacy show to be approved for Maverick. It may be simply that the primacy 225&235/60/r18 with 8/32"tread were the only ones made in that size for Ford and Toyota.

After a post on this issue a month or so ago I checked mine with my 20 year old garmin, & the speedo does read 2mph faster than I am going @ 60mph, the only mobile radar boxes I pass are in slow zones, & have checked a number of them & @30 the signs usually says 29, This would explain why everyone is crawling up my ass when I am going down the road, I tend to drive 57-58 in a 55 zone, so now that I am going 60-62, hardly anyone is on my ass anymore. The speedos read fast for 2 reasons I can think of, the stock tires are light on tread & when you replace them with different ones with normal tread the reading will be closer & some trucks with the 235 tire option instead of the 225 tires might be right on with speed. I don't know if it's only speed or the odometer too, I had a motorcycle once that read 65 & was really going 58, but the odometer part which I checked on the interstate mile markers was right on, I haven't done this with the Maverick yet. Back in the late 70's & early 80's this was done on purpose by manufacturers to slow people down, many speedos then read 10-15% faster than you were going, making you feel like you were going faster, but weren't. Back in those days we checked speedometers with a radar gun for accuracy.

I have a Radenso DS1 radar detector that uses gps. The difference between that and the speedo is less than 1 mph. Love the radar detector between that and waze it keeps me on my toes. I don't intend to speed but don't like getting pulled over. One ticket it more than pays for itself.
