Dear John letter from dealership

I've wanted an XLT, but I would take an XL if I could find one with 4K Tow and a rear slide window on a dealer's lot. I've become quite adept at using the Ford Search to browse inventory nationwide (13 different zip codes must be searched with a 500 mile radius override---I have a thread on it) to locate XLs with an asking price of greater than $27K (which is the minimum price point needed for an XL w/ AWD, 4K Tow and Delivery). Then you can look at the individual trucks to see if they have 4K. I haven't found a single XL w/ 4K on a dealer lot via this search. Lots of trailer hitches, but not 4K... (though at times they have AWD, power driver seat, bumper sensors, CoPilot 360 and a hitch.... common items for fleets or a super strippped hybrid). I never see them with a sliding rear window and 4K. So yeah... XLs are plentiful if you want a white stripped EB

So the dealer is really being honest about constraints.... He also knows his allotments.

I got this email yesterday:


"Ed,

Unfortunately, at this time we do not believe that your order with us will be scheduled or produced in this model year. Due to the constant production issues Ford is experiencing it is unlikely that we will be able to deliver on the order you have placed. We know this is extremely frustrating but wanted to make sure you knew this so you can adjust or make plans accordingly. We are happy to keep the order in the system in the off chance something in production changes. We can also keep you updated should an order become available or we happen to get a Pre-Owned model. Please let me know if I can get you any other information or can be of assistance in any other way. We appreciate the opportunity you have given us and wish we could have delivered on it."

Fortunately I already have a Maverick XL that I've added Cruise Control to. I don't really need another one, but I'm going to ask them to hang onto the order anyway, just in case.

Heck, given your circumstances already having a Gas Maverick, maybe let the Hybrid order ride into 2024. You could keep both once the Hybrid is delivered, or sell the Gas Maverick and keep the other. Sounds like you want a Hybrid anyway and don't want the other?

Since it's only coming from one dealership, I would question it until I hear it from more dealerships across the country. They may be right as Ford may have said something, but I am suspicious of dealerships around me at least, and I wonder if they are simply trying to retain those hybrid orders for the potential ADM profit by snagging them out from under customers where they have already locked in a price.

But that's just me. I am suspicious as the dealership market around me is.. awful.

Hang in there for a 2024 ST rollover

Ford has already said there will be no price protection on any further rollovers. So, if your 2023 order doesn't get built, you get NOTHING heading into MY24...

Speaking of price protection, our 2023 hybrid was ordered 9/16/22 at msrp pricing. Vehicle is built and will arrive at dealer for delivery before end of this month.
Window sticker MSRP reflects Ford’s recent price changes (increases) of another $400 for xlt plus $100 higher destination charges.
Has anyone heard if Ford (not dealer) honors price at order time or must we pay these upcharges? Our dealer and salesperson are classy, but they aren’t the one imposing this price change. We are delighted with dealer and salesperson.

If my 2023 order is not fulfilled then I have the opportunity to order a 2024 at higher cost and 50/50 odds or less of that truck being produced? No thanks.
Hopeful I'll get a 23 right up to the time the last one is built.

If dealer COVP your order then it is price protected.

I don't think the COVP is required. I think the name of the purchaser simply has to match the order.

COVP may come in handy later if Ford decides to cull.

It appears you do have an honest dealer. Most would just ignore the matter and leave you hanging. If I am not mistaken, somewhere on the forum it was indicated that there will not be the rollover system as was used from 22 to 23 MY. I might be wrong, but pretty sure that was discussed. If so, then people will just have to order again for 24 MY.

Problem seems to be XL with hybrid. More and more we read of Lariat Hybrids getting built, but not many XL's. Obviously, Ford is concentrating on $$, which, to be honest, most companies in any industry would do. It doesn't help the guy who gets left out, but I guess that is just the lesson of economics, profit, etc.

Yes, I believe Ford said no rollovers to MY24 … and no more private offer credit for MY23s that don’t get built.

But you wonder if they will be decent and extend that offer to MY22 orders that never got built that were rolled over to MY23 orders that never get built.

Especially for MY22 hybrid orders that had VINs. If those rollovers — the only true rollover MY23 orders — don’t get built this year, they really ought to get that private offer for MY24 trucks.
