Your pics are good, but we have no idea where the fuel line damage is, it is not apparent in the photos
They are the photos sent by the mechanic. So it is fortunate I don’t need a diagnosis at this point. I would like my truck back, though.

Looks like an aftermarket opportunity for Carbon fiber felt replacements -) A couple months ago I hit a large easter type wicker basket on the highway @ 75 MPH it exploded like a grenade unfortunately I had no dash cam footage. Was worried what the front plastic picnic table bumper was going to look like but in the end all it did was partially break a couple of the little plastic nubs that attach to the cross center plastic rail in which the radar acc unit lives.

Parts on back order. Taking bets on how long it will take to get them?

Insurance company called my husband, who is not on the title, about the claim.
Have to ask, Where does it say Ford will provide loaner under warranty? If you bought an extended warranty from Ford then a rental car is covered under that policy. There are time/dollar limits but a dealer can request additional coverage for you from Ford. Also, the parts manager can make a priority request for the part or search for a dealer anywhere in the U.S. to see if they have one they can ship to your dealer. Hopefully your vehicle is at the dealer you bought from and have had a long service and purchase history with.

Fuel line parts on back order until some time in March. Chafing at sharing a vehicle. First world problem, I know.

Anybody have any luck nudging ford to provide parts ASAP?
A competent mechanic/dealership would order the replacement parts and do a temporary repair of the fuel leak with flexible fuel injection hose and send you on your way. They would note on your invoice that it is a temporary but safe fix and that you would need to return for the OEM repair when the parts arrive. This would save them them cost of rental reimbursement and save you hassle of being without a car and having to chase down reimbursement.
It would be win-win for both parties, but there is probably some corporate legal liability BS that prevents them from doing it, or at least that's what they will likely tell you.
Its worth a shot to ask though.

This is what I would do. Fuel lines are nothing new. It used to be that a mechanic would make a new one if needed, but we don't have those anymore due to progress. Instead we park the vehicle for a few months until someone in Mexico can bend and flare some tubing.

I read the article about applying for state funds and doubt I can be made whole because of a pothole.

As KdeB said, the pothole had to have been reported and they just didn’t fix it, and they’d pay for their negligence. I have doubts it was reported, because it was only a crack in the pavement when I drove over it, kicking up that rock. Had it been any larger, I would have tried to avoid it. Secondly, my insurance company has paid for it, it is just not fixed because the parts are overdue.

What will go unpaid is my time without a vehicle able to tow my boat as fishing guiding season approaches, the Uber rides I will incur when my spouse’s vehicle is not available for day to day driving and my aggravation at the dealer for insisting a loaner is unavailable when in fact Ford MIGHT reimburse for a rental. The rental option was only admitted to me today, weeks after my Mav went into the shop!

Ach! Thanks for the forum to vent.

Well, just thought I’d mention it, because many people have no idea it’s possible to get a damage claim paid by the government from something caused by the condition of a road.

OK here's what I would do - I have listed a few salvage yards that have wrecked Hybrid Mavericks. Call and get the line - much cheaper and faster -

The mechanic clearly isnt a mechanic, they are nothing more than a parts changer. I deal with this every day in my line of work. Its a simple fix for someone with the proper tooling. You can see the fuel leaking from either the fitting or line. One is repairable and the other is replaceable. Hour fix tops.

100% correct - there are plenty of fuel line repair kits that splice in. Sadly the truck is at a Stealership and not a real repair shop.

Where did that come from?

Under certain recalls FoMoCo does authorize a rental that Ford will pay for. Under basic warranty repairs Ford will not pay for a rental. Just because Ford authorizes a dealer to provide a rental, doesn't mean Ford will pay the dealer.

From the two letters about the airbag recall, for which the Mav had an appointment the day after I brought it in for the fuel line problem. They won’t do the airbag work, other than tearing my vehicle apart, until they have the fuel line junk. So it is effectively off the road, hostage to the factory delay.

In addition, I called Ford “Customer Care” yesterday and eventually was told I could rent a car, keep the receipt, and transmit it to Ford via an email address that would only be given to me by the service department when the work is done. I was told Ford would cover up to $60 a day. I am hesitant to incur this expense with what I see as a gray area. The dealer now has parts to do the airbag work, but doesn’t want to “push it in and out” to do that work before the fuel line parts arrive. The work is not strictly for airbags, so I worry that they will deny me any reimbursement.

From the owner's manual: Ford and your dealer are not responsible for any time or income that you lose, any inconvenience you might be caused, the loss of your transportation or use of your vehicle, the cost of rental vehicles, fuel, telephone, travel, meals, or lodging, the loss of personal or commercial property, the loss of revenue, or for any other incidental or consequential damages you may have.

As I said before, the Ford Extended Warranty programs do provide for a limited amount for a rental vehicle. Ford Extended warranties also provide some expenses when traveling during a needed warranty repair, over a certain distance from your home.... 300 miles may be but not sure on that.

A dealer is much more likely to assist a customer that has been a loyal customer, both in service maintenance (not just warranty work) and in purchases. The more you have used the dealer the more they are apt to do for you. Only buy one vehicle from a dealer and no service maintenance why would you expect them to do things for you that come out of their pocket.?

Direct injection engines run higher fuel pressure. How much pressure is in this line?

Would mud flaps have helped deflect the rock?

After market skid plates will be popular once someone starts selling them. They really don't need to be very heavy-duty to stop something like this.

I know the fabric covers are 100% recycled material and that is why Ford uses them but I think we would be better off with the traditional plastic covers.

My brother added skid plates to his Toyota, big heavy steel ones. Now I don't want to give up my MPG or lower the payload much like his skid plates that weigh hundreds of pounds will. But there has to be something in between no protection and turning your vehicle into an armored rock crawler truck.

I have had luck in the past with getting parts from salvage yards to fix vehicles. Always with older vehicles out of warranty but there seems to be few options right now.
