Here is the Ford original idea. The bed is just a few inches shorter to close the tailgate:

Also tried the hitch rack. It won't have enough space to allow me to open the tailgate flat. It also triggers the backup assistance warning which I can disable (but you may not want to permanently).

The third option is use the sucking cup rack. Too bad 2 of the 6 cups can't keep the vacuum. And I can't lock it.

Why not leave the front wheel on and just leave the tailgate down, strap the front of the bike with tie downs

I was testing if I can keep the tailgate up so I can still put other stuffs in the bed. Maybe to add bed extension.

I figure you could build a board to fit in the slots that sets it up in the pop a wheelie position and leave the front wheel on. Sure the handle bars would be above the roofline but it could fit fully assembled. Also could do the same up side down.

I'd think it would fit if you angled it at 45 degrees.

I have a 29'er and distance from back of the rear tire to the bottom of the fork is about 59". The bed measures around 66" from corner to corner.

Not too much stress on the fork or frame?

other stuffs go in the backseat. That was the big trade off Ford made only offering a configuration with very short bed and large back seat most people have no use for.

Careful there, fella. Words like that activate the “Nobody wants a pickup with a longer bed and no backseat” brigade.

I also have a Synapse, but I’m your poor aluminum frame cousin. I don’t have my Maverick yet, but my plan is to turn the front wheel sideways (wheel still on the bike) and then lay it diagonal in the bed. Will yours not fit that way?

I angle my Trek (all aluminum) then put a strap around the seat post base. I’m sure that’s less stress than what the bike see while riding w you on it. I wouldn’t use a ratchet strap though. Just use a pull to tighten 1” strap to keep it from bouncing around.

Only if the bed was 5 feet... Maybe on the next version of the Maverick.
