While waiting for my Maverick to be built (yes I believe in the tooth fairy fairy!-lol), I was doing some homework on a Santa Cruz. Prices of Santa Cruz are very high and are often selling over msrp. I'll wait on the Maverick. This a reply I received from a Hyundi salesman: I see you had interest in a Santa Cruz truck in the past. We just took in a HYBRID 2022 Maverick XLT with on lt 2800 miles!!!! Much cheaper then Santa Cruz and over 45 MPG!!!! They were asking over $35,000! Let me know if wanna come check it out, it wont last long! (I don't think so!)

I'm only answering because I noticed we're in the same state - Asheville here. See several existing threads that cover the Santa Cruz in great depth - including my own posted months ago.

Some SC trims are actually being discounted by $1,500 here in NC and SC - if you go to the right dealership. They don't post those discounts online, because they don't offer them to out-of-state buyers (NC and SC are considered same state by most local dealers).

In terms of price comparison - an SC SEL AWD that's functionally equivalent to my Maverick XLT ECO AWD LUX CP360 - would cost me several thousand LESS than an equivalent 2023 Maverick. If you do a thread search, there is an SC buyer who posted the dealer that gave him a $1,500 discount. I think it was just over the SC border from you.

But yea, I see you're waiting on a hybrid. There really isn't an SC equivalent (price or MPG) to that right now. Wish you a speedy delivery for your hybrid. Mavericks are everywhere here in Asheville. I saw the city water department driving a steelie white XL yesterday. So if you need a Maverick fix, take a weekend vacation to the mountains and keep your eyes peeled.

Hyundai dealers here in Charlotte would order what you want. I found only 1 dealer who would sell at msrp. Others were thousands over and loaded with dealer junk.

They should be able to sell them cheaper. After seeing this I for one will never step foot in one of their dealers

The reason to buy the maverick is because it is affordable and gets good gas milage. I have driven the Santa cruz the tacoma, ridgleine, fronter, and the Colorado. The santa cruz with the 2.5 is pretty weak. You really need the Trubo with it. If you get the Santa cruz in the upper 2 builds they cost about 38=40k . Right now the nissan Fronteer is selling for invoice in my area meaning it sells for less than the high-end Santa cruz. The fronteer has 300 hp and can tow almsot 7 k. So I remind myself every time i think about buying the santa cruz not to do it. Buy the way like your handle my children get to pick between Grumpa and granpa. The get Grumpa when they have misbehaved.

I've seen a few Santa Cruz around my town and I don't particularly mind the truck, but Hyundai/Kia dealers are consistently ranked among the worst in the business. That's saying something when you consider how poorly regarded the whole dealership structure currently is.. The price point for an overgrown knockoff of a Subaru truck is a little ridiculous to me as well, but to each their own.

As for the child labor, I say let 'em work! My 6 year old can lift a 25 lb. bag of mulch, it's time to start earning son!

Jk of course (depending on how the day's going)

I dont see any value in the Santa Cruz. A local dealer has 7 in stock all priced mid 30s and up. For that money I can get a Tacoma or a couple thousand more a 1/2 ton work truck with a v8

I love my grand kids to death. I got the name from my son. The grand kids were acting up and I, using a funny voice, told them to behave or else. They started calling me grumpy, grumpy granpda. ! lol So the name...Grumpa. My vanity plate is GRUMPA!

A Hyundai dealer near me is selling a Santa Cruz SEL (2.5L, cloth, sunroof) for $37,000, $1000 UNDER MSRP. Apparently there's a $500 rebate and a $500 dealer discount. But $37k for a cloth non turbo Santa Cruz??? Essentially $10k more than a Maverick Hybrid XLT Lux

To me, a Santa Cruz is a totally different animal than a hybrid Maverick. I think anyone who pays $35,000 for an Hybrid XLT has more money than brains.

In the eye of the beholder. That's why I love the good old USA. We all see it differently. To me, it is a no-brainer to choose a Maverica over a Santa Claus.

Suuure you can. An F-150 XL 5.0 4x4 is starting at $43k. Even a "reheated 2016" basic Ram Classic regular cab is ~$38k after throwing cash on the hood to say nothing of features, the gas you'll be feeding it, and that esteemed Dodge quality.

He's correct. A work truck doesn't automatically mean 4x4. A F150 XL with 5.0 V8 and destination charges included is under 38K. Go to Ford site and see for yourself.
