Hi all,

My Maverick hit (was hit by) a deer last December and has been in the body shop since.

Apparently they have been waiting for a "LX6Z8472E" part that is currently on back order.

Every time I tried to ask a dealership about the ETA, it gets further delayed, latest news is end of this Month (which I believe will further push out).

Anyone has any advice on what is the best way to handle this situation? I am running out of rental reimbursement days from my auto insurance, and it has become very inconvenient to be without a vehicle.

Thanks

I mean I was able to drive it around no problem after the hit, but once it is in the body shop, they cannot release it to me w/o finishing all the repairs, for liability reasons.

"What liability reasons" I would ask them.

Maybe if Ford can give me a letter saying it is safe to drive w/o this part installed, then I can get my truck back.

I did, they are saying something like the engine may seize, check engine lights may be on, and some other stuff. At my level I found it hard to convince the shop w/o some written evidence.

What can seize from extended warm up time?

Laughable.

Don't ya love "blanket" policies that make no sense in your case?

Ask your dealer to do a parts locator search on OEConnection and see if they can buy that part from another dealer. There would be a price markup and shipping costs involved if another dealer has one that they will sell.

Thanks, I can try this route.

Update:

I chatted with Ford customer service this afternoon, ending up with a case number and "a repair specialist will contact me". Later I received an email from the body shop claiming they will get the part this Wednesday.

Maybe Ford did something here? Anyway I will update once I confirm the body shop actually gets the part.

That's great! And surprising. And unfortunate you had to put in the leg work.

Ford probably told your dealer to buy the part from another dealer since it's on back order and you pushed some buttons.

Good job.

Update again, body shop got the parts, but it is because the dealership placed a "emergency order" for it (which no one told me about) few weeks ago.

Ford repair specialist did call me and gave me such information (helpful).
