Wild that two users tried to use a welder and posted the same youtube link at the same time.

Also, your link is broken.

I had replied to an old thread, trying to understand voltage requirements of the 400 watt outlet in the bed of the truck. And now I am somewhat determined to increase the ability to use higher amperage devices from the bed of the truck. However, that was still done under the same account and name.

My wifes struggle in cancer treatment is what made me decide to buy a modern car for her, first i thought bronco, but the maverick is bigger and ive been the maverickman since 2009.

I had preordered the Mav in Sept of 21. I was diagnosed in Dec of 21. I wanted to cancel the order but my wife wouldn’t let me. She wanted me to maintain something to look forward to. It was delivered in June while I was hospitalized. Took me a week after I was discharged to finally get up enough strength to drive it for the first time. I’m so glad she wouldn’t let me cancel!

Ford Maverick Runs a Welder??

watch it here!
I didn't hear the Maverick engine running. With it running, the input voltage to the inverter would be alternator voltage rather than battery voltage. Probably 0.5 to 1.0 volt higher. Might have given the inverter a little more power.

It was. I don’t think our AC plugs work in the bed without the engine running.
OK, some things will run for a time period after you turn off the engine. Since I don't have my Mav yet I was not sure about the inverter.

Im sorry but thats not a weld. Its way too cold. A 400 watt inverter is not going to give you enough amps (it puts out around 3 amps) to strike an arc as that was one reason you were struggling. You're going burn up your wires and inverter doing that.

I agree 😂. And yes I probably will. Although I am looking at how to potentially and SAFELY increase the ability to run higher amperage utilities. I will say I don’t believe this particular instance damaged the vehicle however. The soft limit on the inverter was triggered before the hard limit on the fuse box was limited. The hard wire rating is much higher due to surge demands.

You're going to need at a 1800 watt inverter minimum to give you 15 amps. If your serious about running your stick welder in the feild and want to be able to do 1/4" plate run a 2400 watt inverter. You will need 14 ga copper wire to carry the current at <3% drop. Make sure to give that new inverter more air flow to make sure you don't trip the thermal overload when doing some serious welding. Also, do you have a fire extinguisher with you when welding?
