Is it possible to install the seat cover so only half of the back seat is covered, so that a passenger can sit in the back without sitting on top of the cover?

Not really, but I suppose you could unclip one of the straps around the rear headrest and fold it over to one side. I have an Aussiedoodle, so she doesn’t shed which keeps the cover looking pretty good most of the time . It is not a hammock style, so if the pooch isn’t invited, you could seat two or three in the back on the seat cover no problem.

It's a fairly cheap option and it would be more expensive and a pain in the butt to retrofit, so why not? In the summer I was leaving it open with the sunroof popped up to allow air to flow through - really keeps the temperature down and the window is too small for shenanigans.

And the dogs are happy.

Get the trailer hitch for $100 as well. Even if you never plan on towing, you can put things like cargo and bike racks on there as well. Expensive to retrofit.
