Good one , my point was is that whether you get 25mpg or 95 mpg the real value in the Maverick is the versatility and convenience. For me MPG was way down the list.
But that's not the case for many Maverick buyers. Many were not even considering a truck before an <$25k hybrid was announced (I fall in this category) - Ford has not hidden that the Maverick is kind of their replacement for the focus and fusion. We all have our own reasons, it's clear that many of us care more about the fuel efficiency (and overall cost) than the versatility and convenience of the truck form factor.

For me Hybrid vs. Eco

Hybrid Saves $1000 / year in gas
Hybrid Saves $50 / year in oil
Hybrid Saves 10 hours / year at refueling and changing oil.
If you make $40 an hour that's worth $400.

So gross savings per year:
My Hybrid vs. Eco: about $1450 / yr

I'm retiring soon, and planning to do a good bit of day-tripping, so yes, $40-50 a month savings IS significant to some of us. Were I working full time, making tons of money, I don't know that I'd really care. And of course, this is a whole different discussion when gas prices rise again, as they most certainly will.

Just to shake things up a bit. One thing people forget about is the cost of repairs after the warranty runs out. The Atchison Cycle engine is nothing "new" it has been around for a while and used by many different manufacturers. Many mechanics shops will refuse to do any real involved repairs. I heard that the average cost of a head gasket replacement was north of 10k... There went all of your savings. Not trying to sway one way or another but this is one cost of ownership that gets overlooked.

I believe it is the Hyundai ioniq or corolla. We actually were looking at the corolla hybrid and a totally stripped base model was going to cost ~$2k more than our XLT Maverick with a few extras. We'd have dumped the vehicle before making up for $2k in fuel savings between the corolla and Maverick - and the corolla SUCKED - so it was not a difficult decision.

Fuel efficiency and overall cost of ownership were the primary factor for us, but certainly not the only factor. If the corolla would have undercut the Maverick by maybe $4k, probably would have a corolla.

I don't care about the date at the top of the web site. It's a cut & pasted hodge podge from 2005 with mostly outdated and irrelevant information for the Maverick owner. Would you mind removing it? I feel it's a dis-service to the first time hybrid owner.

Thank you.
Dunno what you're talking about, I'm picking up my Saturn Vue Hybrid this afternoon!

Actually June 11, 2020 isn't 17 years so I am unsure where you got your math from.

So here is a report from the Canadian government that states cold weather degrades batteries and if you read the report it will back up what I stated.

It's gonna get more real than we could ever imagine soon. Might have to win in Thunderdome for a tank of Petro or to charge up our iPods. I could have retired in October but held off due to all this mess occuring. In the six decades I have been here this world has changed so much.

All the more reason to retire, I think.

Never thought I would be moving things around so the government wouldn't steal it from my kids when I'm gone but here I am. Capital Gains on already taxed income and property the thieves

I think city vs rural driving is key here. If average speed was 40-50 mph the gap would close to 0. Everyone has different needs.

"When combined with a gas motor, electric engines..." - someone doesn't know the difference between a motor and an engine.
Like I was trying to state politely, it's a stupid article, from 17 years ago when less than 1 in 100 people had heard of hybrids. The fact it was cut and pasted in 2020 means nothing.
