Didn't the Bolt get recalled and production stopped due to excessive number of fires? Not sure that would command a premium MSRP?

It was only something like half a dozen fires, but nonetheless highlighted a possible manufacturing flaw the created the circumstance.

Also I don't think Maverick owners can really throw stones in that particular glass house.

wasn't the Santa Cruz revealed as a concept at a show like 6 years ago before ever being produced as a real production vehicle? And priced starting mid-$20k range? It can be done.

Yeah but any worth while EV battery pack cost damn near $20k. Atleast anything over 150 miles of range. Thats the trouble.

I have had multiple Chevy and Ford trucks including my Maverick that I am enjoying but still miss the Dodge Dakota that I had in the late 90’s.

It was severe enough that Chevy fully halted production for months trying to figure out the problem, then restarting production, before releasing the redesigned model. Maverick is nowhere close to that history and hybrid centric for the most part. Hyundai and Kia are the current leader of car fire issues and again far more cases than any Mavericks.

Ram and Jeep seem to do their own thing within the Chrysler umbrella. But Ram has made a big deal about listening to consumers while designing this thing from the ground up. Contrast that to Tesla who said, "this is what you will want" or Ford who said, "this is what you currently buy... but with electricity!"

We will see if what they announce has any mass market appeal.

Ever since the 1985 Ram was introduced, they have been listening to Truck buyers...

Maverick is nowhere close to that history and hybrid centric for the most part. Hyundai and Kia are the current leader of car fire issues and again far more cases than any Mavericks.

Point being the Maverick/Escape/Corsair underhood fire recall was on the basis of some 23 incidences; almost 4x that of the Bolt's 'excessive' fires. The Escape PHEV when it was initially released (as the Kuga in Europe) also had some 4 battery related fires which delayed the US version release for over a year.

Mopar power has long been dead. Loved the power I got out of the 318. I stopped even looking at Dodge or Chrysler veh.s when they were consumed by Fiat's holding co. Now they are owned and operated by Stelantis yet another holding company to buy Chrysler, based in the Netherlands. Nothing about this newest conglomerate's car brands screams reliable to me.

The 318 was always a low power entry level V8 since it was originally offered in the mid 60s.

MOPAR owns the HP title between Themselves, Chevrolet and Ford. Let’s see, you can buy a 4-door Charger with 797 hp, or a Challenger with 807. Or a TRX truck with 702. Dodge has been able to out pivot the other manufactures for decades to quickly remain on top in the car and light truck line.

IIRC, those "23 incidences" were all related to 1.5L, 3 cyl Dragon motor (not used in Maverick), and the recall in US was to implement a fix that included removing some radiator shutters and drill holes in skid plate to reduce possibility of an engine fire from trapped fumes or leaks having potential to ignite when caused by an event like broken crankshaft puncturing the block? That's a far cry from orders from GM to immediately stop driving Bolts and park them outside only and stopping production 100% while investigating.

I guess your definition of serious fire risk is different than mine

No, it was for the 2.5L in the hybrids which is why it affected the Maverick. I'm on the record that the fire mitigation recall wasn't due to some particularly huge epidemic of hybrids catching on fire, but like I said it's a bit the pot calling the kettle black to act superior over GM on that front.

I was worried about buying a Ram myself after being faithful to Ford for years. But my 2014 3500 dump truck has been trouble free for 8 years. I has the 6.4 with the Aisin transmission

Glad you think so but I've never been a big block fan. I find it more fun and more of a challenge to squeeze power out of the small blocks. My first patrol car was a Diplomat with a 318 and there was very little on the road that I could't catch. For power give me a 302, 318 and a 327 in that order and I'll find a way to squeeze out power. Not interested in factory big block power. As far as owning the truck market they all still follow Ford and always will.

We have logged about 7,000 miles on my wife's new Bolt EUV since mid-October. It is awesome. A perfect vehicle for her to handle her 60-mile daily commute and us running around in.

Looking forward to (eventually) getting my EB Maverick, but I would gladly consider a PHEV Maverick or Ranger that had AWD/4x4 and could tow a decent amount (4k or more).

Just gotta be open to the universe, man.
