Is it possible to get an audible alarm when drifting out of lane rather than the vibrating steering wheel?

One of the features I wish Mavericks had, is a warning signal (beep sound) if there's someone in your blind spot when you put your blinker on to change lanes. It's hard to take a quick glance to check, if someone is in the right front seat. All my other cars had this feature.

Good question. I always thought it was a setting. Never got around to looking. So far the vibrating steering wheel is good but would like to have an audible alarm too.

Thanks for your reply, but this is not what I was asking. I once fell asleep at the wheel (of another vehicle) with pretty dire consequences. I want to be wakened if I fall asleep and I fear that the vibrating steering wheel when drifting across lanes will not be enough.

Have you considered not driving when you are sleepy? Or maybe just not driving at all.

"I did something that nearly killed me, any passengers of mine, and anyone else who had the misfortune of being anywhere near me.

I want to keep doing more of that. But it'll be okay because the car will startle me conscious, which will totally help and not make things worse."

Ouch. Either you're trolling or you need to stop driving.

Wow, I never expected to get scolding lectures. Nice to know that I share a forum with folks who are perfect and are entitled to tell me what a rotten driver I am. I fell asleep once only and asked a straightforward question seeking to make it less likely in the future. I would appreciate it to receive answers to my question, not lectures.

You don't seem to understand the seriousness of the actions you've admitted to. No one here can help you.

It is YOUR job as a driver to not drive when you are impaired in any way, and you already failed that duty once, apparently with severe consequences. Driver aids are not meant to compensate for your crappy judgement.

No one here will help you to put others on the road in danger again.

Take a cab. Call an Uber/Lyft, or a friend. Hitchhike. Walk. Do the watermelon crawl. But do not drive impaired. It's not just your life at risk, it's everyone you encounter.

Wow guys, you are so judgemental. Like I only killed someone once! Nice to share a forum with people that have never killed someone due to their own negligence. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't keep bringing up that dead guy I killed and his wife and children.

I think some people may be jumping to conclusions. I started nodding off once (in 51 years of driving) toward the end of a long road trip. I had nothing to drink but it was getting late in the day and I started nodding off. When that happened I could not wake up enough to process what was happening and pull over. Luckily I saw a highway marker sign that I knew meant I had missed my exit and that startled me enough to pull over. It is truly scary- if it never happened to you then you are lucky. That was long enough ago that cars had no safety items. I don't know if the vibrating steering wheel would have been enough to wake me up. The loud buzzer I get from my TPMS system now would have done it.

I don't know about the audible alarm. But would definitely think it a good idea. I know some vehicles have eye movement sensors that alarm when the driver falls asleep. Steering wheel vibrating is better than nothing I guess.

I am glad there are so many perfect drivers out there that never fall asleep or make mistakes. I have been driving for over 50 years and yes, I've dozed off more than once on long boring drives. And then pulled over to rest a bit. But you don't always realize you are sleepy at least imperfect me doesn't. I've been fortunate that it never resulted in anything bad. But it could have.

I work shift work and have a hard time staying awake for my 1+ hour drive home after a 12 hour night shift. I have 360 on my F150 but drive a 2018 Escape as my commuter. I ordered my Tremor with 360+ just for the added safety features. I agree, an audible alarm would help but the vibrating steering wheel has worked to snap me out of a snooze when I've driven the F150 after a night shift.

Some people work shift work as a necessity to survival, not as a bad social choice. There are side effects to this, which is why some of us appreciate tools to keep us safe. I love the new safety features born from the need to protect the driver of that vehicle, and everyone else sharing the roads. Great question, you didn't deserve the criticism.

There is a Driver Alertness Warning that triggers when the vehicle thinks you are driving impaired (by lack of wakefulness or otherwise). The owner's manual doesn't list the specific criteria but suggests that multiple lane keep assist events will trigger it.
