Todd,

I own both that I show on my channel. You are right about switching this year! Ford knew their hybrid capacity was only 35% of all builds. But in Sept for some reason they did not tell their dealers how many 2023 hybrid vs turbo Mavs they could order.

It was like an order party, even Long McArthur took almost 800 orders with no warning to their buyers. My guess is LM will have 200 upset buyers once they realize they should have been told to order from a dealer with a shorter line. Now Ford and their dealers are trying to backpedal out of this mess.

Hybrid vs turbo is a long standing debate. As one of the few who owns both in the country, here is my take:

The hybrid is practical.

The turbo is FUN!

It's like a little race truck that puts you in the back of your seat off the line. Once you drive both you will know it is much faster than the hybrid.

Turbo hwy mpg not much different than the hybrid even with way more passing power and capability. But like you said, be sure to get the turbo with AWD. Otherwise you will have a lot of front wheel spin off the line or up icy inclines. With AWD, you will have an amazing all weather truck that also can handle off roading in the mud.

And get 4k tow even if you do not tow much it's great for resale value.

At 2 trucks for the price of one full size, I would change to an AWD now to get built. Then order a 2024 hybrid in a few months when the order banks open again.

I use my hybrid for city mpg and summer road rips. I use my AWD for winter driving and light off road. Spread the miles they will last twice as long.

I hope this helps. Ask any questions.
Not sure where you are getting your Hwy mileage from but the AWD Ecboost for 2023 is rated at 24hwy... which is a far cry from the hybrid.

That's a TREMOR! It gets considerably lower mileage than a regular AWD Ecoboost. Here's the sticker from mine with the FX4 Package and 4K Tow Package.

The mpg ratings have changed for 2023. So that model is likely rated less now.

FWIW- we've had both. The difference in MPG is around 10mpg for what we do, 34 to 44.

YMMV.

Yeah, because the memo literally came out after Model Year 2023 orders were in the system and Model Year 2022 production was finished. So, that makes sense...

I actually called ford today and they said that I’m in order allocation stage and couldn’t make any changes at this point.

Rick, here is my video of my 2 favorite colors AB and Carb Grey in various lighting. The best is the one I am looking at.

Yes I love the Alto blue. I enjoyed your video and subscribed. I had a chance at a carbonized gray Lariat hybrid all loaded up and I passed on it. That was back before I ordered my 23. It was 5k over sticker. Probably should have gotten it.

You have the best Mav name I have seen! Of course it helps that your name really is Rick. Thanks for subbing! I am up to over 90 Mav only vids and counting.

My dealer said that was only for old my22 orders and that I couldn’t change mine.
Well, he's 100% wrong, but what else is new?

Someone who drives 30,000 miles a year, 80% interstate miles, who has watched every highway mpg comparison video by the professional reviewers between the two drive trains showing only a 4-6 mpg difference between the two in real world conditions when traveling at highway speeds. Someone who doesn’t mind spending another $50-$60 a month on gas to get AWD handling and capability also with an independent rear suspension, more power if needed, and a traditional 8 speed transmission. Someone like me. I’m going in tomorrow to convert my 23 Carbonized Gray Lariat, Lux, copilot, copilot +, remote start, moonroof order to the ecoboost. Also going to add back the SIBL and bed rails at the discounted price. I figure I’ll have better than the 50% hybrid chance of getting a build this year by switching. I can always move to a AWD hybrid when they offer it if my driving dynamics change. Not looking back.
Good for you!
This is a call everyone needs to make for themselves, based on their situation and needs. I love my Hybrid Maverick, but the EcoBoost Maverick is pretty wonderful as well. I'm still on the fence about changing at least one of mine to EB...

I called Ford yesterday and was told that my order is in processing and I cannot make changes to it.

Doesn't change the fact that your dealer was 100% wrong to tell you that the ability to change from Hybrid to EB is only for 22 rollovers... And what does he mean "in processing?" ALL orders are "in processing," which is sometimes stated as "unscheduled - clean..." Which basically means "your order was error-free and Ford put it in the queue."

She basically told me that my order is locked for scheduling but hasn’t been scheduled.

Interesting to see the value of the EB being overshadowed by the hybrid. TLDR: I will switch to EB. The values I see in the Maverick are threefold.

1. The XL is so low in cost, it gives a cool utility vehicle option to those who might otherwise buy a sedan or hatchback in the same price range.

2. The Maverick fills a void Ford created 11 years ago when they retired the classic Ranger. (I was never a full size truck person, but had always wanted a classic Ranger. My first car was a compact sedan due to affordability, and my second a Civic inherited from my wife when we upgraded her to a CRV as the family car. Now that its time to replace my civic and I can have a preferred ride, used Rangers in my area are selling for $15,000+, and I now have a family, so 4 door/seat is preferable. From my perspective, the Maverick replaces the classic Ranger and adds full backseat and better mpg, even the EB.

3. The competitive pricing for a hybrid vehicle. This was just the cherry on top and a no brainer for my needs-while it seemed attainable.

Now that I find myself with the combo least likely to be built (XL Hybrid) with a 9/19/22 order date, I still see XL EB as a great value and upgrade from my current ride, especially since my work commute is only 15-20 minutes, and I don't spend much on gas as it is. I'll likely add AWD and 4K tow, as I see that as a great value combo for the XL.
Maybe in a few years when hybrids are more available, I can trade in for one. I'm pretty stoked these exist either way and hope Ford keeps them around even beyond the EV transition. I can see myself driving these vehicles indefinitely.

Yes if I were to switch to EB I would definitely go AWD for sure.

I ultimately made the switch to Ecoboost. I drive mostly highway miles but AWD was the biggest factor. I was a little skeptical of going hybrid FWD on the first place to be honest.
I wasn’t seeing many options on the market that fit what I am looking for until I came across the Maverick. The Ecoboost is still a nice step up in fuel economy from my current vehicle.
the hardest part of going with the Maverick is that it will be my first automatic vehicle in over 32 years. I would continue to only drive manuals but it is now to the point where the vehicles offered in stick shift are not as fuel efficient and some lack the current safety features.
