So why would anyone with a Lariat Hybrid order switch to a EB? Going to cost another two grand plus loss of mpg.
No thanks, I'll take my chances.

Ugh.. That’s a good point. Not really a great scenario for lariat orders.

Someone who drives 30,000 miles a year, 80% interstate miles, who has watched every highway mpg comparison video by the professional reviewers between the two drive trains showing only a 4-6 mpg difference between the two in real world conditions when traveling at highway speeds. Someone who doesn’t mind spending another $50-$60 a month on gas to get AWD handling and capability also with an independent rear suspension, more power if needed, and a traditional 8 speed transmission. Someone like me. I’m going in tomorrow to convert my 23 Carbonized Gray Lariat, Lux, copilot, copilot +, remote start, moonroof order to the ecoboost. Also going to add back the SIBL and bed rails at the discounted price. I figure I’ll have better than the 50% hybrid chance of getting a build this year by switching. I can always move to a AWD hybrid when they offer it if my driving dynamics change. Not looking back.

Stopped by my dealer to add SIBL and the tie down cleat deal.

Sales manager said that not one customer has come in as of yet to switch from Hybrid to EB.

Said that the people that want a hybrid want a hybrid. Which is what we're seeing here too for the most part.

Feeling better about getting the XL EB's that we ordered. Even with the XL constraint it seems all EB ordered will be built... eventually.

Todd,

I own both that I show on my channel. You are right about switching this year! Ford knew their hybrid capacity was only 35% of all builds. But in Sept for some reason they did not tell their dealers how many 2023 hybrid vs turbo Mavs they could order.

It was like an order party, even Long McArthur took almost 800 orders with no warning to their buyers. My guess is LM will have 200 upset buyers once they realize they should have been told to order from a dealer with a shorter line. Now Ford and their dealers are trying to backpedal out of this mess.

Hybrid vs turbo is a long standing debate. As one of the few who owns both in the country, here is my take:

The hybrid is practical.

The turbo is FUN!

It's like a little race truck that puts you in the back of your seat off the line. Once you drive both you will know it is much faster than the hybrid.

Turbo hwy mpg not much different than the hybrid even with way more passing power and capability. But like you said, be sure to get the turbo with AWD. Otherwise you will have a lot of front wheel spin off the line or up icy inclines. With AWD, you will have an amazing all weather truck that also can handle off roading in the mud.

And get 4k tow even if you do not tow much it's great for resale value.

At 2 trucks for the price of one full size, I would change to an AWD now to get built. Then order a 2024 hybrid in a few months when the order banks open again.

I use my hybrid for city mpg and summer road rips. I use my AWD for winter driving and light off road. Spread the miles they will last twice as long.

I hope this helps. Ask any questions.

Wow Todd, thanks! I am humbled, just a rookie at this trying to get better. I ordered both Mavs summer of 2021 way before the long lines. Earlier this year, I realized I should post videos because owning both gives me a unique perspective.

I got tired watching reviewers who borrow a truck for a few hours and pretend to know everything while making a lot of mistakes in their reviews. Or the ones who make you stare at them for most of the video. So I started my own channel.

I am trying to be different. I have over 90 Mav only videos. I hope I earn your sub and referrals Todd!

Oh an even though I am CA and UT don't hold that against me! I have family in Spotslvania, Reedville, and Richmond. I was just there for Thanksgiving.

Definitely not. I need a high MPG vehicle more than I need a truck. The "truck" part is just "icing on the cake" for me. I already own a Ram 2500 HD. If I can't get the Mav Hybrid, the new 2023 Toyota Prius looks pretty sweet to me. Of course, like all other new desirable car models, I'm sure that I'll be waiting forever for that too.

Welcome to the new America. Inflation, supply-chain-created shortages, high energy prices, non-responsive leadership..........whew!!! If we grew more bananas here I'd think we were turning into a banana republic.

Many, not all, rollovers last year were hybrid, so the hybrid constraint is a real thing. XL being a constraint? Doubtful. I think this is just an expectation on Ford's part. Surely Ford will try to build as many XL hybrids as they possibly can when they realize most people aren't going to switch. Better to make a little less profit than none at all. They did this last year, and I suspect they will do it again (building as many trucks as they could).
I like what your saying ,reading your take on things,
thank you, I changed from xlt hybrid to xl hybrid ,took deleting all except 360 To better chance at build only to be wrong ,dealer said nothing , like they don’t know things, or access to information.
Order date now move back ,start over week ago I guess

Ordered a Maverick XL hybrid on Sep 17th for grandson but I kind of knew I would never see this base Maverick so when allowed to switch engines I did and 2 days later was the proud owner of a 2022 Maverick bought right off the lot for same price I was going to be paying for the Hybrid so I am 99% happy 1% i wanted the Hybrid but not looking back and love the new truck so far I just picked it up Monday.
Ford Maverick Are you switching your order from Hybrid to Ecoboost? [Now allowed by Ford!] 2022 Ford Maverick

When Ford starts building stock EBs this summer, this number might change.

Well. I made the switch. Original order Oct 21. Tires of hearing you ordered a constraint on top of a constraint Hybrid XL model. I drive 700 miles a week for work with 80% hwy and current truck gets 17 mpg so even eco boost will be huge improvement. Hopefully it opens up a hybrid model for one of you guys since I was unscheduled carryover at priority 10.
