In theory, I like the idea of negotiating my trade.

The problem is that I'm not sure my dealer would accept my current vehicle. 26 years old, 200k+ miles, check engine light, no horn, no airbag, illegal exhaust, no radio, rusted frame, rusted suspension (she sounds like a creaky mattress,) rusted antenna, power windows broken, can't open the driver side door anymore, and the gas cap assembly fell out last week.

Does anyone know which dealers are more likely to dabble in higher risk vehicles?
I agree you will get a bigger tax deduction by donating to cars for kids. I am spending $3000 + on my 09 accord to fix it up for my granddaughter. It is mechanically sound. It needs a Catalytic converter and a tune up. Worth more to my granddaughter than a trade in.

Dealers usually want cars 6 years old or less. Maybe 10 years in today's market. After 10 years you no longer need an odometer statement so after 10 years miles probably don't matter. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ford puts every maverick that is shipped to a dealer in their "Inventory" search. Most of them are customer orders and not actually for sale. You have to look at each individual window sticker, Green means customer order, Blue is dealer stock.
Yeah, I learned that lesson back earlier in the year when I was searching for a Mav to buy after the missing the order deadline. After about 3 weeks of diligent searching I finally found one that a customer declined.

When I bought my Mav back in March, the dealer had an incentive of $2500 minimum for your trade. I had a 94 Ranger with 353,500 miles; radio and A/C didn’t work. Turn signals quit working about a year earlier which was frankly unsafe for me drive around in. I developed a really bad oil leak about two months earlier and realized it was time for a new truck.

The only condition was that the vehicle had to be drivable onto their lot. The dealer was in suburban Indianapolis and I live about 175 miles away. I was a little bit nervous it would break down on the way to make the trade but it made it.

Worst case, you should get $500 or so for scrap value. Good luck!

What issues are you having?im thinking about just letting my order go
Don't let my comment affect your decision, I really like my Maverick, I was just hoping to avoid the battery harness issue as Ford chose not to proactively address this problem, rather wait until customers get stranded and require a tow. This can be much more than a nuisance issue, especially as some have waited weeks or longer for parts.
Jury is out on mine, I will follow-up after my dealer determines path forward.

If I could find a comparable competitor to the Mav, I'd have bought one already. There just isn't one. Yet. Ridgeline is great, lots of features, but much bigger, more expensive and lousy MPG. Same for Frontier and Colorado. Somebody put a direct competitor out there that is also available to buy... I'm there. You think any of us WANT to wait a year plus for a truck?
I certainly don't want to wait a year for a maverick, but I can. I might pay $2,000 over if a dealer had what I wanted now, but not more than that. It won't be long before supply catches up with demand.

you can't take that shit with you brother! You know what they say, no one ever sees a brinks truck in a funeral procession.
For sure, however IRS forces people to take RMD from retirement accounts every year starting in your early 70's so it won't sit there growing tax free forever. We figure those accounts will mostly be spent on old age care as needed, so at least there is that. I do joke about my plans for taking some stuff with me though: This year I bought my new Maverick, a new dirt bike and a new trailer to haul behind my Maverick. All paid for. I told my wife when my time Comes, just put me in the Maverick with trailer and bike hitched and get dozer to dig a suitable trench in the yard and roll me into my final resting place 🤣

What is this belief based on?
Used vehicle prices are are tanking, and interest rates are up. The Mavericks will hold extra value longer in the market due to being "new and hot", but as those who really want them acquire them, demand will drop on them too. When the flip value is gone, so will all the multiple orders. You will be able to walk into a dealer and pay MSRP at virtually any one before 2023 is over. Interest rates are killing car sales already. The higher interest rates were needed to reel in high inflation though.

In addition, the auto micro-chip shortage seems to be easing. XLT Lux, Lariat Lux, CP360 and WiFi hot spot were all constrained for 22s due to chips. None are constrained this year.

I think it will show up first on EcoBoosts, they don't have enough EB orders for the year. They will either open the order banks again for EBs or allow a lot of dealer stock orders.

But used vehicle prices are not tanking*, the Maverick is not a used vehicle, and interest rates mean little on a 25k vehicle.

*They are slightly receding from record highs, and are still extremely high compared to any time prior to the past 8 months. Simply put, say “normal” is 100, in the past year it went to 250, and now is at 200.

And used prices have actually gone up in Dec 22.

Nevertheless, the Maverick is not a commodity vehicle, and will not rise and fall in the middle of the pack. It is a niche truck that oversold its build capacity in 5 days. Considering that 90% of the genpop have never even heard of a Maverick, that is pretty impressive, and as more hit the roads and more people become aware of them, that will add to the already pent up demand that got the door slammed on them on Sept 20th (or whatever the date was).
Used vehicle prices have been dropping since July. Used vehicle prices are what's driving ADM's on new cars. Plenty of used Mavericks out there for sale, more than new actually. And soon they will be dropping in price like all the other used cars.

I gave a dealer a hard time about a 5k markup on an awd XL. Knowing MSRP and lack of features I wasn’t willing to do that. They couldn’t sell it for weeks which was fun to remind him about since he thought he would sell it by the end of the day. But the day it showed up they suckered someone. 30k you could get a used Honda Ridgeline or Chevy Colorado.
Non hybrids are no big deal

You can find stories both ways
https://www.arenaev.com/chip_shortage_in_the_automobile_industry_eases_but_will_remain_throughout_2023-news-804.php#:~:text=The good news is that, until the end of 2023.

" The good news is that the manufacturing constraints are easing a little as semiconductor manufacturers are able to offer some sort of steady supply. "

Different car manufacturers get their chips from different supplies. The best indicator for the Maverick is what I already stated.
"XLT Lux, Lariat Lux, CP360 and WiFi hot spot were all constrained for 22s due to chips. None are constrained this year."
