That's a good story and all, but exactly how did you get your "maverick for free?"
When I ordered my Maverick Dec 2021, I was preparing my old house for sale and didn't have $ on hand to buy or finance the Maverick. I told my agent I had about 130k into it and would be happy to break even. She told me market analysis showed listing should be around 158k. I Planned to use up to my budget of $30k to pay cash for the Maverick. It finally was ready to list April 2022. Agent said market price is now more like $195k. I was in disbelief but let her use her price anyways. Got 2 full price offers 1st day and a check 14 days later. $65k more than I had in it and would have been happy with. $37k more than agent suggested just 4 months earlier. That's free $ to me and I used $26k of it to pay cash for my Maverick 😎 YMMV

I did it is similar but different. I also looked at the frontier and I Feel it is a good truck. A plus to the frontier is a 6 cyl engine and a frame. Negatives are poorer fuel economy and extra cost. Same truck was more than the Maverick. If I knew the cargo tie down limitations of the Maverick before buying I might have given the frontier more consideration. Limitation is cross tie down can twist frame. I saw this some were in the owner’s manual fine print. But I am only going to do limited hauling so it is not really important to me.
Your thinking is a lot like mine. I hope to get the Maverick hybrid I ordered in September. If I get cancelled, I might be picking up a Frontier S king cab. There are some of these on the lots for around $35K. Reliability of the Frontier is a big selling point for me.

i left the cash in the bank and financed at 2.1%. at the time my investments were paying 9%. Making 7.9 % on the money I didn’t take out of savings. I believe in using someone else’s money when it is advantageous to me.

Wife and I are retired and don't believe in taking out loans if we don't have to. Paying cash for truck meant no lien holder requiring Full Coverage insurance saving me money💲 We only have a small mortgage and Social Security pays for that and all other monthly expenses with some left over. We have IRAs we try not to touch and focus on showing lowest amount of taxable income every year while still living a comfortable lifestyle 😉

I just searched the inventory within 100 miles of st Charles, mo and there are 47 2022 models. The inventory dose not say how many are sold.
Ford puts every maverick that is shipped to a dealer in their "Inventory" search. Most of them are customer orders and not actually for sale. You have to look at each individual window sticker, Green means customer order, Blue is dealer stock.

you can't take that shit with you brother! You know what they say, no one ever sees a brinks truck in a funeral procession.
I think I will put that in my directive for my funeral details. Sounds like a nice bit to liven things up a bit.

I checked my dealer inventory and both of our orders (23 hybrids, our VINs) are showing as in stock, but if you look at the stickers they do show "Special Order." In fact, all but one (there were 11 hybrids listed as "in stock") of the in-stock Mavericks show "Special Order." Those showing up in your search are likely "in transit" special orders.

Ours are expected before mid-January, so not even in stock yet. YMMV

Same here, but with my Bronco Sport. As soon as my window sticker generated, it was listed on my dealership website as "in stock and available". Build date is 1/05. I'm sure a lot of the Mavericks people are seeing as available are not actually available.

Lot of dealers in my area have 22s in stock at 5k over. Must be lots of people walking away from the order. Dont blame them really with trade values tanked and high interest rates.
If they were “accumulating” they wouldn’t be marked up.

My 22 XLT Hybrid with luxury package came with a spray-in bedliner at $26,600 MSRP.
Just for curiosity's sake, I ran my configuration through the "build-you-own" 2023 configurator and it was about $3K more.
While I like my Maverick, especially the size and efficiency, I am now having reliability issues. If I were to shop for a $30K vehicle again, especially with a $5K adjustment to it, I would definitely include more options in the selection pool.
What issues are you having?im thinking about just letting my order go

Keep in mind $5k ADM on a 22 is like $3k markup at today's prices for the same truck.

Everything is negotiable (at a dealer).
Talk them down an additional $1k.
At just $1k you are being serious and reasonable. 99% chance the dealer will take it. Really. It's true.

If you have a trade, negotiate UP the value of your trade. Get them to come UP on the trade another $2K. Totally possible.

Now you have broke even. You are at MSRP.

Now the Sales Dept. Can brag they sold a truck a markup on paper, but you essentially Paid 2023 MSRP on a 2022. But that's fair because you waited until 2023 to buy one!

Like you pay current MSRP for milk, meat, eggs, and gasoline. You don't pay LAST YEAR's prices for food? Or jeans, or toys.

Go for it if you see one on a lot!
In theory, I like the idea of negotiating my trade.

The problem is that I'm not sure my dealer would accept my current vehicle. 26 years old, 200k+ miles, check engine light, no horn, no airbag, illegal exhaust, no radio, rusted frame, rusted suspension (she sounds like a creaky mattress,) rusted antenna, power windows broken, can't open the driver side door anymore, and the gas cap assembly fell out last week.

Does anyone know which dealers are more likely to dabble in higher risk vehicles?

Assuming you are not being sarcastic, suggest you donate it to your local fire department for training and take a tax write off/deduction for the actual cash value.

Being in a similar situation I try to hold on as much as I can. My wife and I are both past 73 and you know what that means. RMD per the IRS so I have to make withdraws if I want to or not for the tax man. We can’t beat him at our age
