Sounds like a perpetual motion machine. 🤣. I get it. But ya gotta admit the exact wording was a little funny. 😜 No ill will here. Just it sounded akin to "use your cigarette lighter socket to recharge your under seat battery". (Without direct mention of using grid power.)
FYI a trickle charger by definition is pluged into your wall outlet , converts 110v to 12v, and when plugged into your cigarette socket (if it is hot when ignition is off) or connected directly to the battery delivers about 2amps (as the black & decker does). When my 2015 Silverado had a dead battery after 2 weeks of no use the service adviser at Chapman told me to get a trickle charger. I knew exactly what he was suggesting and got the B&D and have been using it ever since. I hope the info is of some use!

A 2 amp trickle charger is actually a lot. 2 amps can damage your battery by cooking (boiling) out the electrolyte. I assume it has an auto shutoff? Probably ok then but 2 Amp is useful for charging vs. maintaining.

A battery maintainer or "float" charger can be left on 24/7. They are usually 0.5 amp (500 mA). But I think ALL the good ones automatically shut off if the voltage gets too high. Not saying the picture is a "good" one or not. Just the first photo I got off google. Auto-shut off is a good feature.

Mine has sat for weeks and even months at a time. It goes into deep sleep after a month if i don't remote start it. But even then it will. No problem starting it up after that. Even in winter. I'm not concerned about it.

I think if your is fine, it's fine. (The way it is "supposed" to be.)

But I'm reading a lot of people were having unusual amounts of self-discharge. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Left mine at the airport for 3 weeks and had zero issues.

Trickle charger shouldn't be needed, these vehicles have a BMS module connected to one of the battery cables. It is supposed to shut down every electrical input into the battery when the the charge drops to about 80%. Basically it won't allow the battery to discharge from outside sources below it's capacity to start the engine. Unless that is defective, you wire something around it or the battery itself is bad there should be no reason the truck won't turn over after sitting for months on end.

With that said putting it on a trickle charger is not a bad idea but think of the electricty used for it as a maintainence cost.

At the end of the day, if they hybrid batter dies, it's still an ICE vehicle until you drive it and it recharges the hybrid battery no?

No.

Only the big hybrid battery can start the truck.

But you need the 12 volt battery to run the electronics and close the contacts (switch on) the HV battery.

Honda hybrid were the only ones (I knew of) that could start on high voltage or low voltage. They literally had two starters.

Not true, if you buy a trickle charger than has electronics that prevent overcharging! Do a google search on how long you can leave them plugged in. And only buy name brands! Actually the Black and Decker is 1.2 A not 2.0A, my bad. Thanks for the discussion; watch the curves and have a wonderful day.

Have an 22 eco w/awd + moonroof picked up off lot. 23 hybrid w/360 ordered. Do not drive alot, 50 miles weekly. Happy with the eco, but want 360 safety.

Will 70% of days sitting affect hybrid ? Worried about Battery drain and sleep issues if not daily driver.
My hybrid spent almost two months in the body shop after I had an issue with a deer not yielding me the right of way. I had no problems with the battery when I finally got it back.

Well yes. That's what I meant by auto shut off if I didn't state it exaactly. A constant 2A is too much. Those are out there. Usually coupled to bigger units.
👍🏻

If there is an "always hot 12v " like in my CX-5; you can plug in the trickle charger; that is easy and Amazon has a Black & Decker that is cheap. I have used one for years. More than 10 days is a problem.
I have that B&D trickle charger. It works (charges the battery) in my Vette, Spider, Ioniq, and Outback. It doesn't work in the Mav.

Why not? What is different about the Mav? How did you connect it?
