Bought a XL and I think I'm feeling bad about it.

I splurged and bought a set of stainless steel trim rings for my EB AWD XL's steel wheels. I added a soft folding tonneau cover, 2 bed cubbies, Line-X liner, hitch step, and floor mats and any trim level I bought would have had those. I've also splurged on the switches to add cruise control and parts to add keyless lock to tailgate and one of these days I might get around to installing those parts.
To me, a truck is a tool which is why I also have a white XL F-250. I'm looking for the best overall value. I don't identify with my truck, so basic trim is fine by me.

Have an XL hybrid no add-ons (salesman recommended) on order (9/16) that I'm totally satisfied with - will change out steelies when tires need replacement. Currently driving a '97 F150 base model 94k on its last leg(completely rusted out flood vehicle)but really has been a dependable truck - no complaints. Need my Mav sooner rather than later!

Hi guys. There was some time I was after a Maverick but here in NJ there are no vehicles available and it seems there won't be for some time.

It happens I needed a (second) car out of the blue because my wife found another job which is further from home, which lead us to purchase another car.

So that was my clue to have my Maverick.

Drove one hour to PA to find a black XL Ecoboost FWD - which was everything they had - and I bought it. (eve though I had to pay an extra for it)

Now after driving and feeling it - I say I really enjoy driving the car it but I feel terrible bad about buying a trim-version so basic - kinda ashamed.

I look at that truck and think If I should try buying new wheels or something else to make it look nicer but I'm not sure about putting money on top of a XL.

What do you guys think?

Worry not about such things. It is what it is. Other people’s opinions do not matter. But that is, of course, just my opinion. What did you pay for it? Be well!

I have the same concern hence why I ordered an XLT. But I would take an XL at MSRP if I could get one! Looks sharp!

The XL is the best looking trim, in my opinion. It’s a truck, not a sports car!

Yeah, I would rather keep driving my 2011 Expedition than have to drive an XL. You're much more brave than I am. I would be too embarrassed to come on this forum and admit I had an XL. Every time I drove it I would be worried that someone I knew would see me driving it. If they asked me if it was mine, I'd probably lie and tell them I'm borrowing it, and convince them by making an insulting joke about the poor sap that actually owned it.

Best thing you can do is find some cheap wheels someone has taken off the bronco sport variations. Upgraded the XL immediately. I did that to my XL and it was the best thing ever.

Yep same as mine. However the little fake lugnuts are going missing. So got plans for a multispoke version wheelcover next year after Christmas is paid.

A set of new wheels really improve the looks of a XL Maverick. I bought an XL FWD in Area 51 and replaced the wheels with FX4 style wheels. Big improvement. I absolutely love my XL. I know everyone is tired of seeing my Maverick, but I like to show it off every chance I get. Here's before and after.

It’s sad that dealers are charging huge mark ups but I think that’s coming to an end, at least you have a nice blank slate to work with , I saw some body put trim rings and baby moons on the steel wheels and it looked sharp.

Time goes quick. Your oldest kid will be learning to drive before you know it. There is a lot to be said for having a more basic vehicle for them to learn to drive in.

If you had bought a loaded Lariat then handing your keys over to a 16 year old would be a lot harder, and insurance for a teenager would likely cost a lot more too.

I have heard enough stories about people that have had their wheels stolen that I don't want fancy wheels.

I never understood the fixation on wheels either since you only see them for about 10 seconds when you are getting in or out of a truck. They don't make the truck drive any better either.

After you have had the truck for six months then you will get used to whatever wheels you have and not even notice them unless there is a problem.

Fancy wheels are just car jewelry. There is nothing wrong with that if that is your "thing" and you can afford it but it is still little different than other jewelry people buy. If I was going to spent $500 to $1,000 on jewelry I would rather have something that is gold that could be worn.
