So in a hybrid, if you’re creeping in town between lights on all electric, you want the engine to start when you make a stop??? How stupid is that thought process.
I don't have a hybrid. I want the engine to keep running when I stop.

IIRC, Ford got the dial shift from Land Rover which is once owned. Our 2015 LR4 (which we just sold last month) had the dial shifter, so it was pretty easy for my wife when we replaced it with a Mache e. I'm still a knuckle dragger with a Ford Super Duty with a column shifter, but I occasionally get to drive my wife's car (when it's service time or time for a wash), so I'm used to it. TBH, I much prefer the Lincoln Nav. with the push button gear selector right by the HVAC controls. Don't like taking up valuable console space.
We have an 05 explorer with a column shifter and I have to say that's my least favorite place for a shifter. The dial has grown on me.

For the year before I received my Maverick all I drove was a two door Silverado and a VW Tiguan.

Over the weekend I drove my new pickup for the fourth time, a trip to the recycling center. I turned it on, it’s a hybrid, went to put it in gear and my right hand flailed around the cab before finally finding the transmission selector.

When I got on the road and up to speed, I set the cruse and proceeded to slow down. Unlike the VW, the cruse must be turned on every time the Maverick is turned on.

I stopped for a traffic light. When I thought the light was about to turn green, I wiggled my foot and panicked when the engine did not start. It’s a hybrid not ICE with auto stop start.

At the recycling center after unloading the bed, opened the door and got in the back seat.
Bro are you ok? In all seriousness, I love the gear dial, got used to it within a few days. Seems like an age thing.

Most people who are anti-auto start/stop grew up in an era where you had to hold your tongue the right way for the engine to start. Today, cars are so hooked up with computers and sensors and the starter is so overbuilt the auto start/stop is likely the most reliable part of the automobile. I've never heard of anyone having that particular piece fail. Even my car won't turn on the capability if the battery is low.

It does take getting used to. However, it is something you can control. In my Escape, if I don't push the brake done completely, it won't engage as it thinks I'm stopping at a stop sign and about to start moving again. Also, if I know the light is about to turn green, I will lightly let up pressure on the brake which turns the engine back on.

Honestly, I've come to prefer the few moments of stillness at the lights now.
Agreed, always chuckle when I hear someone say "They don't make 'em like they used to". Thank God for that.

Keep the stores coming guys, you got me cracking up. I'm sure it'll happen to me one day when I go to roll down the window and automatically start making a crank motion against the door or something.

You don't understand. I like the dial. It's mussel memory. I want to put my Maverick in drive, my hand reaches for the lever sticking out of the console (VW), then it goes for the one sticking out of the steering column (Silverado), finally it goes to the dial and spins it. Off we go happy as pigs in ......

I’m also still adapting to the shifter, but my biggest mistake is constantly trying to shut the door by grabbing the air in between the door arm rest and handle.

Getting better.
Had to go to the recycling center again today. Shifted from park to drive and back again half a dozen times and only waved at the dash once. This time after unloading the bed, I didn't get in the back seat.

I agree about the cruise control. I’ve always thought the system should remember your setting and reengage with just the touch Resume.

Just my opinion. That and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee.
Can't even get a coffee for $1.50 anymore. I met a friend at Denny's 2 nights ago. Cup of coffee was $3.79.
