I'm curious about everyone's experience going from a full size truck to the maverick. I am waiting on my Maverick to be delivered but am now starting to have second thoughts about transitioning from a 2011 F-150 Lariat Supercab to a Maverick XLT. Basically, I came to the decision that I really didn't need a full size truck for occasionally moving material around and wanted something more gas friendly. So for anyone that switched from a big truck to this small truck, are you happy with your decision or do you have any regrets?

I went from a F150 to a Maverick XLT, zero regrets!

no regrets here at all 23,000 miles. Rides better, I think actually accelerates better and waaay better on gas.

It's all a matter of what you want and/or need.
I've owned:
Dodge Ram Reg. Cab
K10 Reg Cab
F350 Crew Cab 4x4 8'bed
Gen3 Ranger Reg. Cab
F150 Regular Cab
Gen3 Ranger Ex. Cab (current vehicle.)

Each suited my purpose at the time I owned them.

Now I want to downsize and get better gas mileage.
The Maverick will suite my current and future wants and needs.

I went from a 2012 F150 Lariat supercab to the 22' Maverick Lariat FX4. Very happy with the Mav. The F150 was a little more comfortable on long drives, but I don't miss the 14-17mpg I routinely got, or how much of a PITA it was to park in comparison. The Mav is more fun to drive, and is enough of a pickup for the times I need a pickup, which frankly isn't all that often. It's my daily driver and for that, it's great. I don't feel like it is too small at all.

Went from a 2017 RAM 1500 SLT 4WD to my Hybrid FWD and it took about a week to get conformable driving it. I had a Focus before getting my RAM, so having FWD experience in the snow definitely helped the transition from a full size truck to a small truck with the same interior space as a 2015 Ford Focus.

Friend of mine owns a Ram 1500 Laramie and questioned why I wanted an EB Maverick. Once I explained the whole working from home thing and my need for just an "Escape with a bed," he completely understood. That and I pointed out I could buy two Mavericks for the price of his truck.

Over the past several years (for a host of different reasons) I have migrated down the size spectrum to the Maverick. Never looked back!

1 Ton Dodge Dually - Cummins

3/4 Ton GMC 4x4 Crew Cab - DuraMax

1/2 Ton Ford F-150 4x4 Super cap - 3.7 gas

Ford Maverick 4x4 Crew Cab - 2.0turbo

Never Looked Back!

I sold my F-150 when I ordered my Maverick. I had no idea at the time that it would take 14 months for the order to come in. With that said, now that I have the Maverick, I am not the least bit sad about the exchange. I am 5'6" so the F-150 bed was a huge pain for me. I also do not pull campers or large trailers. The Maverick easily pulls my 5X8 when needed. If I ever get my jetski, it will do just fine with that. The gas mileage is the biggest treat. I do miss some of the bells and whistles from the F-150. Strangely enough, the automatic folding mirrors are the feature I miss the most as my 2 car garage is not the most spacious.

I just made the switch literally yesterday, so my review is super basic. But I have had nothing but full size trucks for years as my primary vehicle. I just gave up a 2019 Ram 1500 and I don't think I am going to regret it. I just don't NEED a full size truck anymore. I haven't for years in truth. I just like big trucks. But the little Mav drives nicely for its price tag and is already getting much better mileage. I will tint mine, level it, sound deaden the doors and back wall, and upgrade the audio. Doing those things and likely wheels/tires and it will be all I need. That is a lot of mods for most people, but I hate driving stock vehicles.

I moved down slightly from a 2008 Ranger SuperCab to a Mav XLT. As with you, I'm only occasionally moving things in the bed. I was a little concerned about the bed being shorter, but the design features to accommodate 4x8 sheets alleviated most of my concerns. I recently had some trepidations about moving a 10 foot long piece of live edge wood, but with the tailgate in the half-way position it moved like a champ. 7 feet in the bed/tailgate, 3 overhanging, which I was more than comfortable with.

Don't have my Mav yet but going from 2011 F150 Supercre to Mav. F150 is just to damn big! Have had smaller trucks before. Hope to get my Mav in a week. Been at railyard for 10 days now.

I had secretly plotted for months to get the wife to take over the maverick when it came cause she's been leasing larger SUVs or f-150s for the last 8 years with her "safety" excuses regarding driving a smaller vehicle, our need to have a tow vehicle for our pontoon boat/trailer and me driving 15 miles each way to work and her 1 mile to/from work. Which had essentially forced me to drive cost conscience/fuel efficient sedans! If the maverick towed the boat well, I'd put the pressure on her to drive the mav and I'd keep my 17 camry which is almost paid off. The mav tows the boat great, but of course it's all still backfiring on me cause no matter what she claims are all the other reasons behind her wanting to drive a big truck, the truth is she likes big trucks and all the other reasons are out the window. So now we are gonna have a big truck and a little truck and my kid is upgrading to the Camry with a nice discount! I guess we all still win cause I've wanted to engage in recreational activities such as kayaking which requires some sort of SUV/truck to haul the gear. But at a higher monthly cost for all of it.

I sold my 2018 F150 when I ordered my Maverick. Being retired and moving from northern Michigan to South Carolina made me realize I no longer needed 4x4, or that much truck. Maverick can haul 4x8 sheets of stuff, room for more than two, though somewhat 'tighter' than the crew cab F150, and will get much better gas mileage! Easier to park and move about traffic.

Keep the old truck.
Drive the new truck.
Use the old truck when needed.
