A lot of it has to do with them having a too much stock and trying sell them at 34k and higher.

Welp, I've personally seen F-150s for $4k below MSRP, Tacos for $2k under, and cancelled Mavs for MSRP, so I'd say the market is changing. A few more months and anyone who ordered a Mav that is delivered might be able to buy it for under MSRP

Used car bubble burst a few weeks back, rising interest rates and the unofficial recession gripping hard. However once the floor in price is reached, it should rebound to normal supply vs. demand conditions.
Used car prices are down 1% from May peak for September. They guess 2-5% for October. Hardly bursting. We’re still up 30-50% over 2019 market used car prices. Bubble is still there and strong. Supply of decent vehicles is low and little to no leases coming to fill the gap. They might be offering less but definitely aren’t dropping their prices to reflect that. Notwithstanding, I have multiple offers from dealers for my hybrid XLT at $33-34k.

Supply is not outstriping demand any time soon, It will take years. But for now inflation is playing the show.

People need reliable affordable cars no matter.
These are not ordinary times. Disruption is the order of the day, Micro chips and diesel oil. No diesel= no trucks, no trains, no ships. No trucks in= no parts in= no vehicles out of plant. What will tomorrow bring?

This is not a bubble, a bubble is speculation. There is not a supply to meet demand. If the auto manufacturers are hiding thousands of vehicles from a buying public that is fraud not a bubble. If there isn't a hidden supply of vehicles it is a shortage not a bubble.

As a retail owner once told me, "stop buying Christmas trees in August and I'll stop selling Christmas trees in August."

Once people stop paying the markups, they'll go away.
Or if Ford holds up what it has said about dealer markups.

not in metro Detroit.

plenty used Mavericks up for month+ with big drops. Some they finally sent to auction. Things are changing.
Why did they go to Detroit? It is not a truck town. They should have been sent to where they are wanted.

This used car prices have always been a regional thing. Up here, some used car dealers specialize in "Southern Cars" always going south to the auctions instead of the New England area ones. They always got a premium for them as folks would trip over themselves for the so called "rust free" rigs.
Yep and we won't buy a car from the rust belt. We don't use salt. We use solar energy to de-ice our roads.

Used vehicles do not have the same restrictions as new. Just traded in my XL AWD 4k with 7,200 miles for 31k. It is already listed at 35k, with 2 open recalls ( one is brakes I think they can fix, the other is Airbags, that ain't getting fixed anytime soon )
Federal law says dealers are responsible for any recalls on cars they sell. Manufacturer has to do they no matter who owns car. Financers and insurance companies check that recalls are done.

We are not seeing Mavs for sale, new or used!

Sure, they can get sued if shit happens, but there is no Federal Law preventing it, and it has been lobbied against.

I bet the one I traded in is off the lot soon, and no way they fix the airbags. Wouldn't surprise me if they had a disclosure agreement shoveled into the paperwork to remove liability, but I wouldn't expect anything else from this dealer.

I have to share this.
After 440 days waiting my 2nd (identical) Maverick arrived and I checked the price for my older 3K mile "basic" XLT Hybrid Lux 360 with rear sliding window area 51 and.......$17,951!
are you kidding me?
I am almost tempted to accept it, to just look in the eyes (or receive the call) from whoever is going to close the deal...

3 months ago CarGurus over paid me by 5k on a low mileage very clean red line chevy,
theres too many used cars out there now, their lots are busting out but not a lot of Mavericks, Surprised. I have a new Carmax near by couldn't get another car in there lot never see anybody in the lot. Money is very tight and interest rates very high, nobody's buying unless they have no choice, repair shops are booming.
