I put in a reserve order for an XLT on 08/10/21. After a lot of re-thinking, I have come to the conclusion that I made a mistake. If I'm going to purchase a vehicle I hope to drive for the next 10 years, it should be the vehicle I really want with options that are important to me (e.g. blind-spot and adaptive cruise), rather than a price driven compromise. WHAT I REALLY WANT IS A LOADED LARIOT.. Has anyone had any experience with revising an order after submission.

I received notice that my order for the XLT was received by Ford on 08/10, the same day my sales rep took it, but I have not received a scheduled date or VIN. ;
I see three possible alternatives here:
1) they let me amend my original order, thus holding my place in line;
2) they let me cancel my XLT order now and submit a new order for the Lariat; or
3) I place an additional order for a Lariat now, refuse to accept the XLT when delivered, and let the dealer keep it for dealer stock.

I have an appointment with my sales rep tomorrow morning to discuss this, but I'd like to know if there are folks out there with any experience with a similar situation.

You can alter your order up to a certain point, that being after its production is scheduled. So yes, you can alter it. That definitely goes for options, and I think it goes for trim as well.

As bombast said, I think you are fine to modify your order up until the time they issue a VIN for your vehicle. I've already modified my order 3 times, the last time to see if getting rid of the tonneau cover would get my order through any faster. (That didn't work.)

I have changed my order about 5 times so far. As long as they haven't pulled your order, you can change it. The only restricting factor is the patience of your sales person at the dealership. Mine is a super friendly lady and even though she is the busiest person in that dealership she takes her time and does all the changes for me.

Do you have to go into the dealer to make the changes or can it be done over the phone? I want to remove my splash guards.

As long as you don't have a VIN assigned you will be able to modify your order

I just emailed my dealer on Friday to make some changes...going from XLT Lux to Lariat FE, got the confirmation email from the dealer yesterday that it had been modified.

Update: Changed my order from an XLT to a Lariot. My sales rep entered a new order. Says it is because it was a change to a different trim. He said he would try to cancel my XLT order if he could but would probably end up leaving it alone and keeping the XLT as dealer stock when it comes in. Unfortunately, I think this moves my order date back a few weeks.
