Forgive my ignorance. Bought some rims for snow tires. Seemed to be pretty generic stock steel rims. Advertised as great for stock wheel replacement, etc..... Rims/wheels are labeled as lugcentric/ centered by the studs, not the center bore. "Black RTX Steel Rim. Diameter: 17in, width: 7in, bolt pattern: 5-108, center bore: 63.5, offset: +40 (positive offset)."

Bought some gorilla lug nuts in black to match the rims. "Factory Style Bulge Acorn Black Lug Nuts 14mm x 1.5 61148BCX."

Should I be concerned that the acorn taper of the gorilla nuts doesn't seem to go "into" the rim holes very much, if at all? The narrowest point of the lug nut seems to either match or be very similar to the diameter of the lug hole in the rims. I'm not seeing the point of the acorn taper? There is no "cup" for the lugs to rest in or anything like that. Did I buy the wrong nuts for these rims? Do I need non-tapered nuts? Photos for what I mean.

Are you putting the lug nuts on the wrong side of rim. Try turning it over?

That's what I thought at first. But the valve stem is on this side. Haha. So this side has to be the "user facing" side.

Then you need different lug nuts. Also must consider torque required on mavericks from what I have read here it is quite high. Possibly those rims are light weight and are intended to be used for the undersized emergency spare and not standard use. Someone reported factory lug nuts were very difficult to remove the were on so tight. Just checked manual lug nuts torque is 148 ft lbs. Probably need long handle wrench!!!

I wonder if those wheels are intended to be used with 12mm studs, not 14mm like on Maverick?

I hope not......

Edit to add: just went out and measured. Consistent 14.8 or 14.9mm diameter of each lug hole.

Maybe somebody that has an OEM steelie can measure the hole, and if there is a 60-degree chamfer on it? Looking at this picture, I suspect it does.

I'm thinking I need flat washer type.... the lugs are gonna be 14mm. The holes in these rims are 14.8'ish. So there isn't going to be space for any type that have a shank that goes inside the rim like a mag seat style.

If it works for a super duty, gotta work for a Maverick.....right? Haha.

That would be a hard NO. Personally I would get some cheap old fashion open top nuts at auto zone or whatever just to see what they look like.

Yeah I think your nuts are too big. Better get that checked out!:ROFLMAO:
But for real I think they are just too big and beefy. If the taper doesnt sit atleast halfway into the rim it aint right. First i would look at the rim company and see what they offer or specify for nuts. Other than that you could always use a hand reamer of appropriate taper to open the rim hole just a touch. Just dont forget the lube:ROFLMAO:. Sorry couldnt help it. But seriously dont forget it!

Wrote an entire long detailed post with photos and then hit "back" on my phone...lost it all. Adding the photos here and will go back and write the story on my laptop......

And here I am on the laptop. Ok. So I said "F-it" and ordered some lug nuts on Amazon. Just some no-name brand. Just to see what would happen. Guess what? They fit. Opening on them at the narrowest of the taper/at the tip of the lugnut is about 15.5mm. Gorilla ones are 16.5mm at the best. Shiny metal you see inside the Gorilla in the photos below is probably close to what I needed, but they seem to have added an extra layer of metal that widens the diameter larger than it needs to be. So now I get to contact Gorilla to be like......do you sell something I can use that will actually fit? Or am I stuck with no-name brand lugnuts. My original writeup was better. Ohh well. I am salty that I lost it. Haha. Second draft is never as good as the first.
