Grill bar removed, body color painted, re-installed [DIY video]

All the grills are 2 piece on the Mav, they are just bolted to the grill so you either have to take the bumper off or pry the top part of the grill off to reach the bolts to detach the center bar.

Do you actually have an XL? Or a Mav for that matter? You should go outside and look. If not, I can send you a photo to prove you wrong

Hmmm. It would appear that the video that started this thread absolutely PROVES that it's not all one piece. The physically removes the grill bar right before your eyes, paints it, and re-installs it.

That's an XLT, though. @mw_maeve's point is that the XLs are one piece integrated with the grille.

FYI buying a grill bar from the dealer for either XLT or Lariat (same part number and it’s PTM) is $400
Then painting prob costs around $100

Would be great if there were Mavericks in the junkyards to pick up second hand pieces

OK - I guess I missed that point in his argument. But frankly, it was the snarky "Or even a Mav for that matter?" bit that I was reacting to...

Clearly there ARE Mavericks that have the two-piece design. And since approximately 85% (if you believe Ford's build statistics) would be XLs and/or Lariat trim levels, and since both of those trim levels seem have the two-part grill / gill bar design, it's rather difficult for me to believe that Ford changed up the design of just that one component, solely for the XL model...

But I do NOT have a Mav (yet), and when I do, it won't be an XL, so someone else would need to verify that trim level difference.

All trims have different grilles anyways. It saves the XL having to fasten on a separate grille bar incorporating it into a single mold.

There is a part number for the XL grill bar (molded in color)
Now I’m starting to think the XLT is what I was looking at

Ok then I’m the Ford parts system there are only two part numbers
One is PTM (XLT and Lariat)
One is MIC (XL)

I’d also like to point out each level has a unique grill design

Looks great! Now that you have experience with this project, do you think you could have removed the center piece by popping the clips only without unbolting the shroud?

I'm thinking of removing my Lariat grille bar and plasti-dipping it black. I don't want to spend the bucks for a body color paint job, but I think I'd prefer black to silver.
