Back seat folding design

The only thing I’m not liking about the Maverick is how the back seat folds up , its seems that they could have done a better job like the Ridgeline.

Okay, to each their own but that’s way down on my list of things that I consider. Seats will be down, storage underneath, big stuff in the bed. To be honest, never even thought about it until this post. I get it may make a difference to some but absolutely zilch to me.

There is quite a bit of difference in price between the Mav and the Ridgeline. Honda had more money to spend on design than Ford did. But hey you can fit an inflated soccer ball in the bin underneath the seat!

I would suspect that the Hybrid has a big battery under the seat had something to do with the seat design of the Maverick.

Honda has always done a terrific job of making their seats fold in creative ways, even with their less-expensive cars like the Fit (which I still own), and the Element (which my son totaled).

Honda always wins in that category, in their crossovers as well.

Basically, you shouldn't really think of the back seats in the Maverick as fold-up seats at all, and simply regular seats that have underseat storage, and even less so in the hybrid.

The Santa Cruz also one-ups the Maverick in this respect, although unfortunately Hyundai put quite a large transmission tunnel down the center of the vehicle, seemingly bigger and higher than it needs to be. But at least that underseat tray is removable, despite the hump in the middle.

I'm guessing a lot of people do not care, or if they do its such a minor issue they don't give it a second thought. Bet you Ford was counting on that and saved some $$$ on the design/manufacturing costs of the rear seats to keep the price down overall. I would rather save $500-$1000 on the price of the truck, than spend it on a better design rear seat that someone else might prefer.

If I ever need a larger flat space back there, I will take the seats out and build a platform out of plywood or something.

Was thinking of removing the rear seat, both the seat and the back of it. Then need to build some kind of removable shelter for five cats in case we ever need to evac because of a huricane. There is only the two of us so the rear seat will never get used anyway.

I don't disagree, there isn't much room between the seat backs and the bottom of the back seat when raised like this. I'm hopeful if it becomes a problem it'll be few and far between.

Was thinking of removing the rear seat, both the seat and the back of it. Then need to build some kind of removable shelter for five cats in case we ever need to evac because of a huricane. There is only the two of us so the rear seat will never get used anyway.

LOL! We have 5 cats also! We used to live in the Florida, but retired in Utah, so hurricanes won't be an issue! I like your idea though!

I think it looks like different goals. The maverick seat looks like the goal is orginization. The Ridgeline looks like the goal is maximum space. I also think the Ridgeline has more space in the first place because it's just bigger.



I think if I owned the Ridgeline I'd wish for storage so that stuff wouldn't just roll around back there. I'm sure there'll be times when I wish I had more space in my Maverick.

The reason for the back seat question I’m going to try it out for my business, I already own 4 Ridgeline and thinkig of replacing the rest, if the Maverick delivers the 40 mpg city. We also have some large dogs that would love the extra space. Ford is counting on the maverick for comercial application also so only time will tell. The maverick has so much potential with the 20k price and 40mpg that is worth The try.

Eh, quite a few Honda's use the "magic seat" design, including my 2009 Honda Fit .
