Oh, the feeling I had when I saw a rock headed towards me while driving on the highway. When I heard the loud 'thunk' hit the truck my heart sank. I thought I got lucky and avoided having to fix/replace my windshield...I was wrong. Today I noticed where the rock hit. And yes, it dented the metal. Pics included.

Anyone have and advice or experience dealing with something similar? I'm concerned about paint continuing to peel off and rust of course. Thanks

As new as the truck is I would schedule a appointment with my dealer body shop for a repair. Paint match should be pretty easy As new as the truck is. Depending on the price and your policy turn it in or pay out of pocket. if it was my truck I would fix it.

As that’s down the the bare metal the only real option is a proper body shop.

That's definitely too deep and compact to "pop" back out or do paintless dent removal. If it were me, I'd clean up the spot, put some Bondo in it, then go thru the primer-paint-clear process. Unfortunate to have to do that to such a new car. I'm sure a body shop would probably do the same thing.

First thing I'd do is put something on it to keep it from rusting. Make the repair easier

Yeah, I hear that.

It is just me or does anyone else feel like the metal in thinner and softer than other vehicles? I probably just feel that way because of the extent of the rock damage. Lol

Thanks, I was hoping to avoid all of that, but it doesn't seem like I have much choice if I want to keep the truck long term.

There is no need to go to a dealer body shop. I would just get a repair estimate from a couple of regular body shops (In case you need to pay out of your own pocket) that have a good reputation for quality repairs and have them do it. Independent body shops can match the paint just as well as the dealer can since it is mixed with computer formulas. If you have to pay for the repair yourself, I think you will find it cheaper to go that way.

I agree, very thin sheet metal. That is all part of the weight savings but it does come at a cost. Rust will be the next big concern.

Yes, I agree. I'm getting a few quotes next week. Thanks
