I built a Ranger almost exactly like the maverick I ordered and the ranger was another 9k over the Maverick

This 100%. Build a Mav the way you'd really order it, then take that same cash and apply it to other truck models and you'll find that you either have to buy it used (and pay current market prices which are high), do without some features (why would you do that to yourself? You're worthy, get what you want), or both. On top of that, you probably won't have the same amount of warranty, if you have a warranty at all. And you're almost guaranteed to get less fuel economy, costing you more per year in fuel costs. Yes, you'll have to wait on the Mav (unless you wanna pay a markup, or get EXTREMELY lucky), but it seems that everyone who gets one says it's worth the wait...

Move on but don't cancel your order, you can always sell it or turn it down. Check out a Subaru Forrester, base model with a hitch and you can tow a small utility trailer for weekend trips. They are standard AWD. That's my plan B, since i already have a F250

When you are getting that close to $40k on a Maverick, it does make you ponder your options.
Totally agree. The big selling point for me was that it was a truck with a hybrid engine and was around $20K. Don't get me wrong, I love my Maverick but there is no way on earth I would pay anywhere near $40K for one even if it had every option on it. It simply is not a $35-$40K truck. Once you jump into the $40K price range, there are much better options out there. Options that are an actual body on frame truck, not what is essentially an SUV with a truck bed.

If you ordered a 23, and are already impatient, then move on. You will likely wait a year, so either stay off the internet and live your life not even thinking of a maverick, or give up early so someone else can get there’s in 364 days instead of 365.
Ye go ahead and drop out and I get to move up. I thought they were supposed to start hitting dealers in Dec. not next September. Good luck however you go these are unusual times.

at the expense of coming across as unnecessarily philosophical, is the Maverick really a truck? To me, no. It’s a truck-shaped basic crossover SUV. The Ranger is an actual pickup truck. That being said, I think building a Ranger the same as building a Maverick and expecting the exact same in terms of cost is sort of like ordering a steak and then a bowl of chili with beef in it, and complaining that the steak is more expensive.

One easy way to get through this is to go straight to logic. Sure, I want this Maverick but I have a need that plenty of other trucks can fulfill. If you don’t want to wait, then don’t but don’t ever fall for the “help a friend out” move from a salesman unless you actually know him. It’s a softening tactic from someone you’ll most likely never see again. Get the best deal you can and don’t feel guilty about it.

The used market is still absurdly over priced. This was the problem I was having when buying my wife a new vehicle. She wanted an SUV with a large infotainment screen. That was her only request. great! Upon looking in the used market for something newer (2020 or 2021) I found a local dealer with a loaded ‘21 Tahoe with 50k miles on it. I said ok, this HAS TO BE all highway miles being so new. Figured the price would be like $10k cheaper… WRONG. They. wanted $65k for it.

I pull up the gm discount site through my work and I can get a brand new Yukon with the screen she wanted, leather, 2nd row bucket for the same price. I didn’t buy that.

Well, let’s say I was going to. I had one on the way that was being built. The wheels arrived at the dealer and he tells me they can’t sell it due to secondary market chip shortage. Doesn’t know when they will get the chip for it. Could be 6 months or a year.

So he had another Yukon on the lot at a sister dealer. He got that and drove it down and the wife test drove it. Was t the color she wanted. It had cloth seats, second row bench. Everything basically manual, including the trunk lift gate. But with the market the way it was, a secondary shortage meant to me that anything on the lots that can run and be sold will be in even higher demand. So I bought that for $62k less a discount through work which ultimately covered the tags, title, tax. Still now, 3 months later and that vehicle with the chip shortage still can’t be sold.

She loves it. She feels good driving it. Loves the color better than the white she wanted. Realized the use of the second row bench vs buckets. Big infotainment screen. Happy wife happy life.

On another note for trucks, it’s almost the same situation. All the newer low mileage used stuff is priced right around the same price as a new truck. Why bother buying a truck with 15,000 -40,000 miles on it for the same price or $1-5k difference than just buying a brand new one.

I’m waiting it out for now to see if anything pops.

Have you test driven a newer Ranger? I don't see why anyone orders a Maverick EB over a Ranger. If you are getting close to 40k, a Ranger is going to be a better truck anyway.
I ordered an EB Maverick over a Ranger for multiple reasons, still cheaper, better mpg, more room in back seats, I prefer the look, the bed is easier to access, I only need 4K towing for the boat i want, and it'll fill in my garage.

I had a 20 Range and a nice truck, I have a 22 Maverick EB and also a nice truck. There are times I wished I had a little bigger truck (bed) and could tow a little more (I have the 4k) but its not often.
If I look at the mileage and do some fuzzy math with what I call combined mileage the annual difference is about 100 more gal of gas with the Ranger so I dont consider gas mileage a deal breaker but is still a plus for the Maverick and it's combined mileage is 26.5 vs Ranger at 22 over 12000 miles = 453 vs 545 gallons fuel used so lets call it 100 gal and that math is easy depending on your cost of gasoline.
My point, if waiting for a Maverick is getting too hard or complicated then look at a Ranger or a Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon. I had a new Colorado and liked it as much as the Ranger. I have no use for a full size truck.
If one only wants only a hybrid thats a different kettle of fish, maybe there will be a hybrid Ranger coming down the pike (2025?) but thats not going to help someone who needs a truck today.

The point of the Maverick is to be a cheap truck. Personally I would never pay over 30k for a Maverick. I paid 25k (21k after trade in) out the door for my xlt hybrid. If your in the 40k range go with a mid size. If you can wait until next year for the 2024 Ranger that would be good. The redesigned Ranger looks like a bigger Maverick.

I totally get the OP's point of view as well as many others on the board. I am very fortunate in that I do not need this truck, it will be a typical work truck, comfortable enough to take on weekend getaways. I have plenty of reliable transportation in my stable. I chose the gas engine variant over the hybrid which should improve my chances of getting my Mav. ( 8-10-12+ months from now?) I am also in a good place financially, paying for the vehicle will not be a hardship. Again, I am very blessed.

In all of those random thoughts, you failed to consider the main reason the Maverick is a preferred option for many- it is thousands of dollars cheaper.

I guess I want to say I’m frustrated at this point because I just don’t know if I made the cut for allocation and if I did it’s just a waiting game. Either my car will break down first or the maverick will be built and
My understanding from my dealer as I waited for my Maverick order to get selected for production is allocations are given on a month-to-month basis. I sat at Priority 2 (top of list for Mavericks at my dealer) Unscheduled Clean with no constraints for 2 months while my dealer got NO allocations. The next month they had allocations and I got pulled for scheduling and it has moved quickly from there.

It seems there has been a lot of confusing information for allocations for the initial order period for roll over MY2022 and then MY2023 as Order banks closed and people were given allocation numbers by their dealers that made it sound bleak if their order in the queue at dealer was over the number of allocations given, but I'm pretty sure that number is not for the whole year and I would expect more allocations trickled out over time. Of course I could be wrong.

Heck, you can't blame him. It might have been the only way he was getting a Maverick this year...

I seriously thought about ordering one of our Mavericks with the EB. After all, the 2.0T gets about the same mileage as my wife's current Impala... But I really wanted the hybrid for both of us.

I also briefly considered ordering a Ranger for one of us, but then realized that none of the others (Ranger, Colorado/Canyon, Frontier, or Tacoma) would fit in our garage, so that's out of consideration, even if I wanted to spend the extra $7-10K .

So we'll just wait (patiently impatiently) for our Maverick(s).
