I ordered an Oxford white XL hybrid on July 21st. Ordered it with splash guards, spray in liner, hard roll cover, all weather floor liners and 400 watt inverter! Cant wait!

I think the XL is the best "truck" in the line. That doesn't mean the others aren't good, they are! But, the XL is true to truck heritage before they became the luxury barges they are today. And for full disclosure, I drive a Lincoln, but bought an XL.

As for resale, those looking for work trucks will pay for them. It's simple supply and demand. Base trims are hard to find, and they sell quickly when they hit the market. There is no shortage of an XLT anything, so prices remain competitive. It's just that the new truck market for base trucks is smaller and less profitable. But, in the used market they can be gold.
That's why I'm buying the XL. I can easily afford to add a bunch of options, especially since the government will let me depreciate it all. But what do I need cruise control, fancy seats, and AWD for on a work truck? I'm using it to haul supplies three times a week. The base model gives me a useful tool to do that.

And yes, those looking for work trucks will pay for them. The whole reason I'm buying a Maverick is because a 2010 Ranger extended cab with 25K miles on it will run me $18K. Why buy an eleven year old truck when I can get a new one for $3K more?

I've flip-flopped, back and forth, between XL and XLT (always a hybrid with either trim...) = I'm going with the XL since I like the interior better and will match my Area 51 exterior paint...

I've driven my Jeep Wrangler Sport S which has the crank windows and adjust-with-your-fingers side mirrors -- I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've adjusted the passenger side mirror...

Same with the Jeep cruise control = never really use it since it's a bouncy-a$$ Jeep that is a demon at fast highway speeds...

Finally, I look forward to the steelies (just for a change) -- I do want to "semi-quickly" swap the tires over to Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws

My only options are the hitch ($100) + full spare ($115) + inverter ($150) --> all of this for under $22K MSRP and I'll get 40mpg in the Houston city traffic.
Dano, I feel you pain. I have to laugh. Many years ago, I had one of our agents give me a short ride in his Jeep Wrangler CJ (the WWII type) from the Pentagon across the bridge to our office at 14th and Constitution. By the time we arrived, I couldn't walk upright. I told him that he would be hearing from my attorney. When I sit down, I cough.

1. That only applies if you are buying this vehicle with the intention of reselling it soon. I bought my 2004 Tacoma new, and sold it last November, 16 years later.

2. That additional $2285 can be used to buy you own upgrades and accessories, if you wish, or even better be put towards something more important to you than your car, if you aren't a car person.

3. I can accept that cruise control is a must for many people. FOR ME, I have owned 5 cars in my lifetime, all had cruise control, and I couldn't tell you how to activate it on any of them. It is of no value in traffic congested city driving. 99.9% of MY driving.

4. I don't lease. No response.

5. So what, use the $2285 you save to modify it so it doesn't look like a fleet vehicle. The wheels come off and $2200 can buy you some different ones. As long as you don't buy a white truck and slap a sticker on the door, why would anyone think it's a fleet vehicle.

6. 15 or 20 years from now I'm not going to care about resale value, but if I do consider this, if I can get the same 16 years 205,000 miles I got out of my Toyota Tacoma, at the MSRP of my XL ($23,885) that's a little under $1500 a year, 12 cents a mile. That's more that my money's worth even if I put it on blocks in my backyard until I'm ready to be buried in it. That's where my Tacoma would be if people hadn't been begging me to buy it. Anything you get for a vehicle at that point is profit.

I AM writing this to let XLT and Lariat trim buyers know that none of us is buying a Cadillac or BMW, this truck is certainly not going to be a status symbol. The trim levels are not an indicator of quality, they are only an indicator of the accessories you chose to add. The trucks are identical. I could choose to add any or all of the accessories a Lariat has at a later time. Also consider this, aftermarket accessories, are going to come out for this truck. My truck is a blank canvas I can add things later that could make my XL better than a Lariat. I just hope to bring up some points, that there is no need for trim level shaming here. I don't care that "nobody is going to get the base model" because somebody did get it. I DID.
God bless BlueXL!! I am 78 years old, since my childhood, I have always considered myself a car person. I have owned 20 automobiles and 5 boats, give or take, and I NEVER BOUGHT ONE with the criterion of resale value. I bought every one with only three criteria: price, functionality, and enjoyment. 1-Cruise control. The last 16 years, I lived in Texas. When I pulled out of my driveway, I needed cruise control (when driving from El Paso to Fort Worth, you turn off I-10 onto I-20 and your GPS says "Next Turn 456 miles"). Last year, I moved to Sykesville, MD. Every street has a 25 mph speed limit, with the exception of our speedway thoroughfare, which is 30 mph. If I still had my Miata, I would never get out of 3rd gear. So, I don't need cruise control. 2-Appearance. If the "fleet look"' really turns you off that much, then it is worth it to you to pay however much extra you need to pay to get the look you want. Someone mentioned $2265. Personally, I would rather have the fleet look and $2265 worth of Whopper Juniors at Burger King. 3-Resale. If resale is your primary criterion, then put as much money into your new car that you think you can get out of it 5-10 years later. CHACUN A SON GOUT - it's what makes the world go 'round.

anyone else going to be adding leather seats when they get their maverick?
I'm thinking really hard about it. Having not seen a Lariat in person yet, I believe the dash and door panels are blue so to make the seats black leather may be a waste of time and money.

I have an order in for an XLT, but the more I think about it, the less I feel like I need the extras that come with it. Heated seats, steering wheel, mirrors, and wiper rest were the only features I was buying it for, but with the ability to remote-start the truck through FordPass, are they really necessary anyway? As long as I start it a few minutes before leaving in the winter everything should defrost well enough. Convenience is a big plus but I bet I wouldn't notice those features after not having them for a while.

Cruise control is always nice but available aftermarket. Plus, I lived without it for years and never minded. Only learned to use it within the last three years or so.

After replacing that god-awful beige headliner, the black-on-navy interior in the XL will look a real treat, too.

Someone talk me out of/into this, because I'm about to send an email to my dealer! 🤣 Doesn't hurt that it seems like a lot of bare-bones XLs are being chosen for build dates too...

The way I look at it is I don't have heated anything, cruise control, or remote start on my current vehicle and I get by just fine. Would they be nice? Sure, but I can live without them like I have been. Also down the road I'll add cruise control aftermarket if I feel I really need it for the 2 or 3 times a year I take longer drives. I also like the steelies and the basic no frills fleet model look so that on top of saving a few G's is nice.

The saving a few G's is definitely a big motivator for me. I was going to finance the XLT for either 60 or 72 months (depending on rates), but with the XL, I can bump that down to 48 months (or possibly even 36 if I really go for it). Lots of interest savings there on top of the lower price, too.

I'm not a huge fan of the steelies, but I figure I can trade them with someone who is (who has an XLT or Lariat and doesn't want theirs) or even PlastiDip them down the line, and they'll be tolerable.

I'm shooting for the 36 months with no interests. It'll be a little rough, especially because I've never had a car payment before, but I avoid interest as much as I can.

You could also use Bronco Sport wheels which are fairly easy to find for sale right now.

Good idea! I'll have to keep an eye out for those too. I'd have to paint over or replace the Bronco emblem in the middle, which would bother me on the Mav, but it would be easy 🤣

If you think an XL will look plain, keep your eyes peeled for mine in a few months. Already have the wheels. I did doll up my AWD XL though, even got a roof and rear sliding window. Only thing I would slightly miss is cruise but I rarely use it. Nobody will think mine is an XL.

Same! I got the sunroof and rear window on mine too. I plan to redo the beige pillars and headliner in mine into something black (or maybe navy, like some of the other interior surfaces). That'll be my main "dolling up" I think, since I have to look at the interior all day anyways.

I've been giving some serious thought to powder coating the stock steelies, too. There's a guy near me who does quality work for cheap. I'm inspired by the Black Diamond Bronco trim, which comes stock with them. (My Mav will be the same color as the pic, Cactus Grey, and I'm really a fan of the look.)

Other than that, I might get a few appliques when they're available, plus an aftermarket bedliner. Might black out the MAVERICK lettering on the tailgate too.

My contention on getting the XL ($21.6K hybrid with hitch) is I could always buy Bronco Sport take-offs (Houston Craigslist had almost 4 sets already) if I couldn't/can't live with the steelies...

I plan on adding window tint + steering wheel cover + fog lights and then decide on wheels/tires
