This is exactly why I ordered an XL AWD. There is a ton of value in the XL Package. Plus I like the black interior better than the XLT. The steel wheels are the best looking wheels out of all of the offerings. Lastly, I did not want to spend more than 26k. How do you add cruise control afterwards? That is one thing I am going to have to add. Any suggestions would be great!I think the XL is the best "truck" in the line. That doesn't mean the others aren't good, they are! But, the XL is true to truck heritage before they became the luxury barges they are today. And for full disclosure, I drive a Lincoln, but bought an XL.
The XL offers a lot at its price point. Even with "core" truck options (AWD/4WD, Tow package, 2.0 engine) it is a bargain. Co-pilot 360 gets you power mirrors. I live in the snowbelt and even I think heated mirrors are generally unnecessary. Especially for normal folks who put $20K and up assets in garages or barns rather than out in the driveway to rot.
Cruise control can be added very inexpensively. So can heated seats. Look into it if it is a concern. And remember, heated seats are still optional on XLT and Lariat trims!
Steel wheels do not bother me. A nice set of bolt-on wheel covers go a long way in dressing things up. Aftermarket wheels are also an option for less than what XLT and up will cost.
A smart shopper, one that doesn't get addicted to option heroin, can build a really nice XL that can do real work, be reliable and cover all essential "needs" if one is honest with themselves. And, they can do it it for around $26K.
As for resale, those looking for work trucks will pay for them. It's simple supply and demand. Base trims are hard to find, and they sell quickly when they hit the market. There is no shortage of an XLT anything, so prices remain competitive. It's just that the new truck market for base trucks is smaller and less profitable. But, in the used market they can be gold.
Please update once you get it. Mine will be the same but different color. Im not a first in line person and welcome real world feedbackElectric Blue XL with AWD, tow package and full size spare. Build date is Sept 27. Am excited.
Am seriously considering installing a PVC oil catch can. However this may void the warrantee.
XL for the colour of the interior and not needing or wanting any of the XLT features.
Options I added to the XL are
Moonroof
Tow hitch
400W plug in rear
Sliding rear window
Co-Pilot 360 mainly to get the power mirrors
Same build and color as me plus sliding window! Can't waitOrder:
XL hybrid CG
400W - really not sure this is worth it, some comments it will not even power a lap top!
Mats
Hitch
360 - only thing I had to have for safety.
A few comments on this topic:
I have to pinch myself to believe I can get all this for about $22K OTD! Now if I can actually take delivery this year.....
Last car I purchased at this price point was a 2005 Camry LE that I'm now selling with 337K miles.
Per my avatar, that '87 Ranger is about as XL as you can get, even no AC. I have purchased several cars w/o cruise; even my 2003 350z base model, no cruise. From the pics, I much prefer the interior colors of the XL to anything else I have seen for the Mav. When it gets some miles on it in 6 years, I could see it being a great first truck from my boy / girl twins. I will be using it for a 100 mile a day commuter.
Option Heroin - Ha it got me - Just spec'ed a loaded XLT $34k -I think the XL is the best "truck" in the line. That doesn't mean the others aren't good, they are!
