I have been playing with the cruise in stop-and-go traffic. It works but makes me nervous as it speeds up and slows down fast. I have not had a situation where I have to hit the brakes yet. Trusting it is the hard part even with copilot 360.

The cruise control is most useful for highway speeds. Not intended for stop & go traffic. While I like the feature, I feel I have less control of my vehicle and that can make me anxious. Much less so with light traffic highway.. I have the adaptive cruise control and it is a pleasure to use on the highway, however, I disarm it whenever traffic starts to get congested and I feel I need more control over the vehicle.

What setting are you using? Maybe use the farthest one until you feel more confident in it, then shorten it to the middle one, then the shortest? Or maybe just find the setting you are most comfortable with and like the best.

Considering they call it "Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go" this is opinion not design intent... actually one of the main advantages of this over some of the other automakers is the ability to do stop and go.

If it is set up for a longer distance everyone will cut in. It might make it smoother though. Worth testing it.

Maybe, but if you have ever used the ACC in heavy traffic conditions it can be a neck snapper.

It might be "comfortable" once you get used to it. I did not get the Lariat Lux package, but it just seems to me that it would affect fuel economy considerably compared to an alert driver using his foot to adjust to changing conditions in stop and go situations.

I have and really enjoyed not having to fuss with it. It can be nerve wracking when the car is accelerating and you can see them stopped ahead. I have turned it off and back on in those situations before.

But whether or not you like the implementation, I assume you can agree your statement was incorrect that it wasn't designed for stop and go since its right on the description on the website...

I like the ACC for highway usage, but as I explained earlier, not for stop & go for the reasons you stated.. I have no issue with having my errors pointed out ... I should've wrapped up my statement under "IMO". In fact, thank you for the correction. I do not wish to spread false information. That being said, designs are not intrinsically sound ... the ACC for heavy traffic use being one of them.

are you sure a setting is not set just right? I don't even have mine yet so I'm definitely no authority nor intend to second guess your experience. It seems pretty smooth based on this guy demonstrating it in this video

I have used adaptive cruise control in 3 rental cars in the last month. Each trip was 1000 miles. Each and every car worked great. I set the speed, and took my foot off the gas pedal. As soon as a car or truck slowed down, my car would slow down. If the vehicle in front of me braked hard, my car would slow down.

My foot was always close to the brake just in case, but all 3 cars worked great

Cars: Nissan Maxima, Toyota Camry, Ford Edge

I would never buy a car without adaptive cruise control..

Ah, luxury truck trim issues, I am so thankful for auto brake hold on my XL trim. Got long lights and 20-30 % grade intersections to deal with.

Whether or not people will cut in is irrelevant. It's necessary to keep a safe braking distance, even if people cut in. You still get where you're going, even if it takes a fraction longer.

The number of drivers on the road has been increasing for a long time, and it will continue to do so for a while longer. Leaving extra space will make everyone safer - them and you.

A longer follow distance is preferable from a safety standpoint, and (probably) a smoothness standpoint as well.
