Just picked up a 2022 XLT with the eco boost, AWD and 4k tow package yesterday. First impressions are mostly excellent. My only concern is some occasional but seriously rough shifting, and the engine has gotstuck revving while braking a couple times. I called the dealershop who told me it was still in a break in period and to essentially keep an eye on it. Has anyone else had similar issues?

The trans has to learn how you drive. Give it a few hundred miles, should smooth out. at 10k the only time mine acts strange is if I'm driving outside of my normal leadfoot habits lol.

I'm thinking Pilot Error on that 1. You were accidentally pushing on gas pedal at same time as pushing on brakes. Has happened to me before when I was wearing larger boots and not paying attention.

Lack of commitment. If you give it a fair amount of gas and it down shifts then you back off too quick, it kind of hangs there revved up. My work van does it. Just the way you are driving I supposed. I’ve done it in my Maverick too.

I had the exact same issue. Rough shifting at first and it didn't seem like it was shifting right. Got the truck with 14 miles on it - pretty much the same spec 2,0 ecoboost AWD 4k and fx4.

The transmission computer "learns" how to shift over time. Give it a week, it should smooth out. Mine didn't and I was also averaging less than 20mpg. If yours doesn't call the dealer.

I had a seat belt issue the dealer had to address and asked them to check out the shifting and mileage. They said it looked like the trans had stopped learning so they reset it. Now it works fine and I just averaged almost 32 mpg on an 8+ hour highway drive yesterday.

Nothing to worry about.
There's a learning-curve whereby your truck will adjust to your driving habits.
I took delivery of mine, equipped the same, and noticed the same thing at first.
I love mine, rides better than my Aviator, gets great mileage, and it's really QUICK.
The only things I don't like are the Rotary Shifter and that 'Stop/Start' B.S.

I'm not sure about this line about the transmission having to "learn" your driving habits. Older vehicles seemed to do just fine. What if you have multiple drivers with varying driving habits? Seems like they'd all be dissatisfied with how the Maverick "learned" to shift. An 8 speed should have enough gearing overlap to facilitate smooth shifting with a fixed algorithm.
I suspect what's happening is drivers learning how to drive with the idiosyncrasies of the 8 speed itself.

"The trans has to learn how you drive"

My last car was a 2011, so this sentence practically gave me an aneurysm. Insane to see how far technology has come.

Good to hear this is actually a feature and not just a terrible transmission in a new vehicle. Gotta say I am really impressed with the truck. It handles like a much smaller vehicle with the AWD.

Very true, what you observed about the handling.
And it handles bumps, RR-Crossings, etc. like an old Buick Electra, LOL.
Ford really did their homework on the chassis work...at least in the AWD format.
